He didn't expect an exact number - most people don't pay enough attention to actually count as they're too busy screaming and/or running - but he thought he might get something along the lines of "a few" or "an army" just to go by. However, the woman's calm tone as she suggests their safety gives him pause and he stops almost at the door, pivoting to face her. The look he gives her is a mixture of incredulous and curious, and a small smile tugs at the corner of his mouth.
