Melanie gives him a dubious look. "No one 'let it' happen in my universe," she points out. "It just did. No one could stop it." She casts a haunted look around them. Even if this universe is different, she can't gamble billions of lives for the sake of getting to go outside every once in a while. Not if it could end up like this. "It's too risky," she insists, releasing his hand so she can wrap her arms around herself.

"And this is my dream," she adds, dropping her gaze to the ground. "I didn't really save your life - or if I did, it was from something I made happen. If something bad does happen to you in here, it's because of me."
