Well, that is an awful lot of ambiguity Nick's got crammed into four ominous sentences. His tone provokes a slight chill to settle at the base of Daniel's neck. The stilted phraseology is a tad worrisome for more than a few reasons.

"Uh-huh?" Daniel very clearly has no idea how to handle this, so he's going to try and proceed with caution. "So is that why, um, Gabriel is, is hiding? Er, well, making himself difficult to find?"

Excellent cautious instincts.
