Gabriel watches as the child approaches, carefully keeping his place as the creature makes his way around to his not-quite-hiding spot. The recognition on the face is exciting - Samael had found someone that seemed to belong to him, and said that he should search for one that belongs to him. When he reaches out with his mind Gabriel doesn't feel anything like that here, no markings, no strong feelings one way or another, but he's curious nonetheless. Maybe this is something else that he's supposed to discover.
