The TARDIS tends to expect rather more interesting communal telepathic experiences than the one she finds this time; this construct has very nearly the same structure as the waking world, and most of the same emotions in it. Though there's a few subtly different tastes too; more confidence and concern for others than she typically sees in the minds of people, and more arrogance. It's a strange enough mix to hold her attention for a moment, and that's all it takes for her to sense Gabriel, and that is reason enough to stay.
