Yeah, he gets where Daniel's coming from. He does. They were all human once and maybe they still are, maybe they know what's happening to them in there. But he's not a fucking anthropologist or whatever you have to be for that. He's not going to run experiments and figure out if they can be saved - wouldn't even if this weren't a fucking dream. He's going to survive, because he's sick of waking up soaked in sweat and shivering from whatever brand new trauma the night had to offer him.
"And now," he says, setting the gun down beside Daniel and walking over to the thing. He stamps at it mercilessly to put out the fire, cause this place is not going up in flames while he's still hunkered down in it. "It's out of its goddamn misery."
This is the second time Daniel's witnessed him murder something in cold blood. Well, self-defense. Both times self-defense against a dreamed-up not-entirely-human assailant. This time, however, he feels a lot less like throwing up over it.
