It's Saturday night and you're hallucinating in your sleep!

It's that time again! The rift has caught the good little dreamers of New York (and beyond) in its currents and washed them ashore on a desert island in a dream wonderland. This time, however, quite a noticeable change has come over each of the attendees of this nocturnal party.

All the people who arrive in this shared mindspace will find that they have been transformed into some sort of animal they find familiar or that resembles them. They will find that they can still communicate with one another and that they still have all their mental faculties, but might be a little…well…influenced by the forms they have taken on.

They will also find that they have been deposited in the middle of the largest, most elaborate playground they have ever seen. Climbing equipment and slides of the sort meant for human children are in evidence, but so are cat trees, meadows, tunnels, pools and ponds, aerial obstacle courses, and anything else the mind can imagine, for as far as the eye can see.

[OOC: The usual dream party rules apply: players apply the party's theme (in this case, transformation) to their characters according to their own discretion, and both members and non-members are more than welcome to use this post to try out characters not yet in the game. Usual dreaming rules also apply, in that players can choose whether or not their characters will remember this in the morning. Have at!]

A very spotty sort of dog thing comes tearing through the playground, chasing some imaginary animal (or ball). "Hello!" he calls as he zips past, barely even registering he's passed a --

Wait, unicorn? Handy executes a quick 180 and promptly falls over, only to leap back to his feet and dash back to where he left the white not-horse in the dust. "You're a unicorn!" he exclaims needlessly, coming to a stop in front of her and prancing in place. "Oh, but that's brilliant!"

The TARDIS throws her head up in surprise at the dog barreling past her, but then neighs in amusement when she recognized the mind and his enthusiasm for her shape.

"It is rather," she replies with a bow of her head. "You seem to be enjoying your shape as well."

Aha! He knows that voice! Andrew grins, tongue lolling out. "You always did have style. And I've definitely been turned into worse."

At the compliment she lowers her head and softly snorts air out of her nostrils across the fur on his head. It's supposed to be an affectionate gesture, okay. "It certainly seems suited to running about," she replies teasingly, referring to him nearly running into her.

Hopefully she'll interpret his lick to her nose as also being an affectionate gesture. "Oh, but it's perfect for running!" he informs her gleefully, even as he sticks his tongue out a few times in the attempt to clean it of unicorn hair.

Oh wow, wet tongue to her nose, that's unexpected. She snorts in surprise, but decides it's not unpleasant. "Well, so is this one," she replies with a playful stomp of her front hooves. "Care for a race?" Her mind isn't influenced by her shape at all, unlike some other dreamers, but that doesn't mean she isn't capable of having fun with it.

Handy wags his tail furiously and drops into a play bow before hopping up to prance in a circle in front of her. "You're on!"

Her response to his excited antics is a challenging neigh, and then she's off past Andrew in a burst of slender legs and white flowing hair. She slips into a comfortable gallop very soon, not wanting to discourage him, though she's sure she could outrun him if she really tried.
bluesuit_handy: (.snark | that's a very bad idea)

She shouldn't underestimate him; painted dogs chase down prey her size all the time he's an athletic little thing. "Oi!" he calls with a laugh that comes out sounding like a high-pitched chitter. "Cheater!"

And then he's off as well, sprinting after her.
theoldgirl: (happy with you)

"There are rules?" she calls back teasingly, glancing behind her to see him catching up surprisingly fast. Well, that certainly makes it more interesting. When he's almost reached her, she whinnies and breaks away to the side to throw him off. This shape really is wonderful to run in, with her hooves thumping the earth, the wind rushing through her mane, and long legs made for covering ground.

Andrew overshoots the unexpected turn. This time he at least has the sense to take a wider turn to come back around, so he keeps his footing as he zips back to meet her. She's faster than he expected, but he thinks he really can beat her at this.

"Generally!" he calls back.

"And since when do you care about rules?" she counters with a snicker. There's a park bench ahead and she briefly picks up speed to jump over it for the sheer fun of it.
bluesuit_handy: (.surprised | who me?)

[personal profile] bluesuit_handy 2013-06-03 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Since they were in my favor!" he yips. He probably ought to go around the bench, but he can hardly let the opportunity for grandstanding pass him by. He reaches it after she's already cleared it and goes over in somewhat less spectacular fashion by jumping onto the seat before going up and over the back. The move costs him more space between them, and seeing that, he veers away to cut her off where he thinks she might turn ahead.
theoldgirl: (yay leaves)

[personal profile] theoldgirl 2013-06-04 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Out of the corner of her eye she sees that the bench is holding him up, and she whinnies triumphantly. "That sounds like cheating to me," she laughs, too sure of her advantage to do anything but turn exactly where he expects her to. The underbrush between the trees up ahead would only impair her great strides, after all.

"No, politics!" he calls back. Then he stops talking in favor of sprinting as hard as he can as soon as he sees that yes, she's turned. With any luck, he can overtake her this way...at least, he thinks he can.

It's not until he's coming at her from the side that she realizes he's suddenly almost caught up, and short of running into the forest after all she can't break away to throw him off either. She could try another brief burst of speed, but from what she's seen of him she rather thinks he could use the boost in self-confidence, so she only snorts at him and continues on at her current speed.

Handrew yips in triumph as he falls in line with her current course, not far behind at all now. What he'll do when he catches her up he has no idea, and he can't keep up this speed indefinitely, but for now it appears a unicorn is not an automatic shoo-in to win a race against a painted dog.
theoldgirl: (bit mischievous)

[personal profile] theoldgirl 2013-06-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
As far as the TARDIS is concerned they could just run side by side for a while; running together is preferable to running against each other anyway. But she certainly doesn't mind a little healthy competition, and Andrew is going to have to think fast soon or she's going to vault over that creek up ahead and leave him behind after all.

[personal profile] bluesuit_handy 2013-06-06 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
That...is going to be a bit of a jump for him. Too much of one; just glancing at it tells him he's going to land right in the middle if he tries it. Andrew turns his head to look at her as she runs, trying to gauge whether she'll really do it. Thinking fast, he throws the last of his strength into another burst of speed so that he can break out in front of her before veering sharply away to run parallel to the creek. Race course rerouted, thank you very much!
