She'd assumed they weren't going to talk at all anymore - what point would there be, if you're not enjoying each other's company any longer? - so she can't decide what to make of this at all. But then his icy attitude sinks in, not just reserved but condescending, and she bristles at it. If he is still mad with her for their fight, then it's easier to be dismissive than to admit how much that hurts.

"Why are you talking to me?", she asks, her voice fairly neutral, but her expression, or what's visible of it, now cold and aloof.
