Gabriel himself is an giant mass of energy when he's not bouncing around in a human body, so maybe he's more willing to stretch his imagination in that direction. Things don't need sguidgy carbon-based bodies to have personalities.

He shrugs. "It's possible. Maybe it feeds off of whatever happens when someone gets sucked through. Or a billion other things. I'm not an expert. I just got spit out by the thing; it wasn't exactly giving me its life story."
