It's a Waste of Time, Chasing in the Dark

Tonight, the dreamers will find themselves in a forest. Or an office. Or a suburban living room. Or a castle tower. Or a grocery store. The dream is a patchwork of assorted settings, each one blurring inelegantly into the next, most of them only claiming half an acre or so. The hodgepodge makes for quite a sight.

Or it would, if the dreamers could see anything. Natural light is in short supply. In fact, there isn't any light at all, not even a faint twinkle of starlight; you might as well be deep inside a cave. No matter how good their eyes might be, the dreamers won't be able to see their own hands in front of their faces - not unless they can fashion some sort of light source out of whatever they might manage to find. The dream isn't inclined to make things easy; any appliances or electrical light sources the dreamers stumble over won't be plugged in, and any walls, however solid they might seem, won't contain any wiring. A small fire might be the best bet - presuming you can find any means of lighting one.

But there's good news. Each of the dreamers will find themselves with a second set of dubiously useful eyes, because they'll be joined - again, or for the first time - by their dæmons. Granted, said dæmons won't have much more luck seeing in the total darkness than anyone else, but at least no one will have to feel alone.

Just… move carefully. You wouldn't want to trip over someone else's dæmon by mistake. Imagine how awkward that would be.

[ooc: y'all know the drill. Characters don't have to be apped or in the game to show up, and dreamers can remember or forget the events of the dream at the player's discretion. This particular dream isn't a power nerf - a character with the ability to create light could still do so - but the range will be extremely localized, as if the darkness is a solid thing that doesn't want to be pushed back.]

Fuck that, Johnny's hugging him. He manages to do it one-armed, with Nova still clutched in the other. "Shit," he murmurs, pulling back and keeping his free hand at Seth's shoulder. "We missed you. It's been a while, have you - have you been dreaming like this a lot, or... Do you know where you ended up?"

Well, once the hug has been initiated without any bumped heads, Seth is happy to reciprocate, and he can use both arms. He's glad to hear he's been missed. Even if he's not entirely sure about how long or where or how he's been missing.

"Not... really, no. Not where I came from. Somewhere else," he answers, shrugging - which would usually be pointless in the dark, but conveniently Johnny still has his hand there. "How long have I been gone? How's everything in Manhattan?"

"Uh..." Johnny hesitates at the first question. Time is always weird in dreams, sometimes he has a hard time remember the month when he's asleep. It's November, right? And he last saw Seth...

"I'm a really bad person to ask that kind of shit," he admits, taking his hand back to rub idly behind Nova's ears. At least it's not so bad that he's losing whole weeks and months of time, like it was not too long ago. "It's been more than a month, but not two, I think?" He shrugs, a gesture that definitely is pointless. "Things have been kinda quiet. Can't say that's been a hardship."

He feels like he should follow up on this vague 'somewhere else' business, but Seth probably doesn't have anything more specific to tell him.

Nova leans over his arm, sniffing the dark, and says, "Hi again, Sephronia!" in the margay's general direction.

Seth nods a little, a pointless reflex in the dark. Honestly, he doesn't currently have a great concept of time either. Has it been longer for him? It feels like it might have, but he couldn't actually tell you what's been going on.

"Hello," she answers, sounding just as happy as Seth to see them again. She gets up on two feet, leaning against Seth, though that still doesn't get her high enough, so Seth obliges and picks her up with a groan. Definitely a lot heavier than your average house cat. With the help of her improved hearing and whiskers, she manages to locate Nova and give her a friendly lick.

"I met Gabe," Seth adds. "I'm glad you're both alright." There's more people he'd like to know are alright, but just getting to check up on his former room-mates is a relief.
