[open to all] Room full of people in your head

The rift has gotten bored, and has decided it's time to bring people together for another dream party.

This time, when you find yourself within the dream, you'll be somewhere familiar. Perhaps somewhere you feel safe or at home, some place you miss, or were particularly happy at some point in your life. It might not be the same place every time you come back here, though.

There will also be a door where there didn't use to be one, even if there's no wall to surround it. If you go through this door, you will find yourself in endless simple corridor, lined with unmarked doors. And if you go through them, you'll pay a visit to someone else's room.

[There will monthly Dreaming party post like this. Same procedure as last time. Non-members welcome to tag in!]

Of course she's able to feel his jolt of fear, since they are at least partly in her mind, and she looks at him with concern. When he trails off, she reaches over and takes his hand without disturbing any of their butterflies. "I know," she says to everything and decides it's time to explain in hopes of relieving his confusion. "You're still dreaming. This is a shared dream, though, so I am here."

Ianto's face contorts into a series of mostly hilarious expressions: frustration, anger, reluctant acceptance, sulking. He's just really tired of dreaming, okay? Especially dreams with other people in them. Those need to stop, or he'll never go to sleep again.

"Yeah," he says sullenly, because it's really obvious now that she's pointed it out. Dream, duh. He squeezes her hand. "Been happening a lot, seems like?" Right? It's not just him, right? "Freud would have a field day."

Well she doesn't know what Freud would have to do with it, but she can help with his question, and she nods in response. "There is a telepathic current, probably connected to the rift, which links sleeping minds. Not all of them, of course, but it seems to be fairly populated every night." She smiles a little. "I quite like it here. It's diverting, and I can create pleasant environments for visitors." With that, a few earth birds start singing in the trees.

"Isn't that what you usually do?" I mean, call him crazy, but the TARDIS is already a master at manipulating environments for her occupants, that's kind of her thing. "Barring when I leave my pants on the floor and you make my door recursive until I clean." Don't even deny it. (Left. Made. Cleaned.)

"There an opt-out?" he asks, far less casually than he might manage were he awake. "Someone I can ring to take me off the list."

As though she'd want to deny such an excellent strategy, so instead she just smirks a little when he mentions it. "I like doing it here because it is what I usually do, but we don't get many visitors in the waking plane."

She tilts her head to consider his more serious question. "If you slept in one of my bedrooms, I could likely shield you from its influence. Do you not like it here?"

"I like here. The real here." As real as an outdoor room indoors can be, anyway. He plucks the two butterflies from his hair - they're just delicate spun glass, now. It's his dream too. "Dreams should be..." Well they should be dreams, first off, not meetings. "Humans need time alone. Eight hours a night, preferably. Things... percolate. And we dream. Alone." A pause. "Privately," he stresses, because that's really the crux of the matter, and something Ianto craves constantly.

She has a little trouble understanding why he considers this place different from the actual butterfly room, besides the fact that they can both influence the insects here, which surely just makes it even better. But of course she listens and tries to be considerate, even though to her sharing everything is vastly preferable to being alone. It's joy doubled and pain halved, after all.

But she nods as though she understands, and squeezes his hand in return. "Well, you are always welcome to stay with me." Or is that also not private enough? But he knows she wouldn't go peeking into his mind.
