[open to all] Room full of people in your head

The rift has gotten bored, and has decided it's time to bring people together for another dream party.

This time, when you find yourself within the dream, you'll be somewhere familiar. Perhaps somewhere you feel safe or at home, some place you miss, or were particularly happy at some point in your life. It might not be the same place every time you come back here, though.

There will also be a door where there didn't use to be one, even if there's no wall to surround it. If you go through this door, you will find yourself in endless simple corridor, lined with unmarked doors. And if you go through them, you'll pay a visit to someone else's room.

[There will monthly Dreaming party post like this. Same procedure as last time. Non-members welcome to tag in!]

Your name is Aradia Megido. You were in the process of freezing Jack Noir in place but you seem to have misplaced yourself in the process. Well now, this is quite a surprise for our newly-minted Hero of Time.

You flap your unnecessarily large FAIRY WINGS and rise up in the air to get a better look.

Dirk Gently is sitting in a messy office, eating leftover pizza from the night before as he scribbles down some information about his latest case.

For a second, he senses that something might be off, some cosmic interference, and raises his head to listen. The clock ticks out four seconds before he shrugs and gets back to his work. "Nah."

Daine is sitting in her room in the rider barracks, attempting to mend a pair of breeches. It wouldn't normally be a difficult task, but it's hard to accomplish anything with a baby dragon plucking at your sleeve.

"Leave be, Kit," Daine murmurs. Kitten chitters worriedly and bumps Daine's elbow, and the needle slips, jabbing her thumb. Hissing in pain and annoyance, the girl frowns down at the little dragon. "Now look what you've done," she grouses. "What's got into you?"

Kitten looks sorry for a moment, but then points insistently across the room... to a door that wasn't there a moment ago. It takes a moment for Daine to register the strangeness of this, and then she sets her mending aside and rises from her bed. "Where did that come from?" she wonders aloud as she approaches the wayward door. Kitten jumps off the bed and grabs hold of Daine's pantleg, more to keep from losing her than to hold her back, as Daine pulls open the door.

The girl expects to see the paddock, but instead, there's a long hallway lined with doors on either side. Daine frowns deeply, then takes a cautious step into the hallway. "This is fair strange," she says, glancing down at Kitten. "Some sort of spell?" The dragon looks up at Daine and shakes her head, then glances up and down the hallway, muttering unhappily to herself.

"Maybe the paddock's behind this one, then," Daine guesses, approaching the door directly across from the one she's just come through. The doorknob turns easily under her hand, sparing Kitten the trouble of unlocking it, and Daine pushes the door open.

When was the last time Peter was truly happy? He's been happy now and then as an adult, of course. He's had success, he's had wealth and extravagance; he's even had a few people who cared about him, as mind-boggling as that my be. Happiness, yes. On and off. But he hasn't felt safe in a very, very long time.

He sits on the foot of his little bed -- dinosaurs, he'd forgotten that the duvet had dinosaurs on it -- surrounded by all the familiar clutter of a middle-class eight-year-old's bedroom in 1980. Tattered posters for bands he'd liked and movies he'd seen cover the walls, laundry lays strewn across the floor and chair, and toys sit atop unfinished homework on his desk.

Peter slouches against the wall where the bed butts up against it, eying the room around him and trying to remember why he feels like he shouldn't be here.

Moments prior, Aly had been treading carefully and soundlessly down the hall to get a bearing for this strange hall. When the door opens and there's her Aunt Daine, looking perhaps younger than Aly herself, she must pause.

"Well. The Trickster never told me anything about this..."

Daine starts a little and turns to the newcomer. "Trickster?" she repeats, brow furrowing. "So this is a god's doing?" She glances down at Kitten for an answer, but the dragon is absorbed in staring at the newcomer, reptilian eyes wide and nostrils quivering a little as she scents the air.

The place Topher ends up in may have been somewhere he was particularly happy, but it's also somewhere he's been extremely hurt and frightened. So it's really more about familiarity, a place he misses.

He's in his fancy office overlooking the Dollhouse, sitting in front of the computer and working on something exciting, though he's not sure what. There's no people around, and the lights are just slightly dimmed outside his office. It must be night. Topher's sleep schedule isn't generally adjusted to the clock.

The TARDIS' 'happy place' in the truest sense of the word is everywhere, or more precisely the time vortex, feeling the beauty of the universe and the delicate order of the timelines dance around her. But she knows she should project something less overwhelming for the other minds here, and takes a moment to consider. She's the most content when the Doctor is tinkering with her, lovingly working on a component that may not even need fixing, just for the sake of being close to her, a smile on his lips and a hum again her mind. But that's far more emotion than location, and rather intimate at that.

Eventually she settles on an idea and creates a room full of small hills under a clear blue sky, covered in green grass and a multitude of wild flowers. And the flowers are covered in hundreds of butterflies, not two of which seem alike as they display every color, size and pattern imaginable. Those resting on the flowers are lazily swaying their wings under the sunlight, while others are performing joyful dances in the air, either in pairs or in entire iridescent clouds of color. There's also a group of trees and an old-fashioned porch-swing in their shade, which she projects her physical form sitting on for a little while.

In the end, she is most comfortable being the happy place herself, and she has many fond memories of taking care of people here, easing their burdens and lifting their spirits.

Surrounding the Doctor are fields of red grass. The sky is a burnt orange, the trees are silver, and there are flutterwings flying around him. He's a fair way from the Capitol, but the glass dome can be seen in the distance, at least in this dream. He can hear the running water of the Cadonflood river. He must be close to home. It's all perfectly serene, beautiful and familiar.

"At least on my end of things, though I can't say what his intention is this time." Aly holds up a hand for Kitten to sniff and inspect.

"Usually in my dreams, no one can see me."

Gabriel finds himself in Heaven. It's a bittersweet comfort, but definitely familiar. It's warm and he has the feeling that his family is waiting for him just outside the door. The...door. Right, this is just a dream. He takes a moment, looking over Heaven before he shakes off the image. He's definitely had enough of that lately.

In its place is a Karaoke bar. It's pleasant, and there's a plate of mini-pizzas sitting in front of him as he watches some drunk guy murdering a Journey song.

Kitten lets go of Daine's breeches and approaches the offered hand, her eyes staying fixed on Aly's face as she sniffs curiously. After a few moments, her eyes widen in surprised recognition, and she lets out an astonished chirp.

At least one of them seems to know the newcomer, though there is something familiar about her niggling in the back of Daine's mind. One of the riders, maybe? A new recruit?

"We're dreaming?" Kitten looks back at her and nods vigorously. "Oh. Then this is the rift's doing," Daine says with an little sigh of exasperation.

"Or Kyprioth's," Aly says, looking pointedly off in the distance. Her attempt to shame the god doesn't work and she frowns.

"Aunt Daine? What's going on?" And why is Kitten here? Aly barely remembers the dragon from when she was barely out of babyhood herself.
wildmage_daine: (questioning)

[personal profile] wildmage_daine 2013-05-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Daine holds her breath at the mention of Kyprioth's name, half-expecting the god to make an appearance. When nothing comes of it, though, she isn't as surprised as she could be. None of her gods have managed to say boo to her; why should any of the others show up?

Aunt? Daine opens her mouth to object - or maybe it just falls open out of surprise, as she certainly hadn't expected to be addressed as 'Aunt Daine' by a young woman about her own age - but then she sees that Kitten's nodding again. And there is something strangely familiar about the girl. It takes a few moments to sink in, but eventually Daine realizes she recognizes some of the girl's features: she has Alanna's hair and George's eyes.

"Aly?" she ventures, not sure she can believe it despite Kitten's whistle of confirmation. Feeling a bit light-headed, she says, "But you're only a toddler!"

"Oh," Daine breathes as she steps into a world that's just close enough to the paddock she was expecting that for a moment, she thinks something's gone wrong with her eyes. Then she registers that the grass and trees are different from those outside the barracks in more ways than just color. Wherever they are, it's not home.

Daine glances down at Kitten, reassured to see that she is still the sky-blue color she ought to be, though her scales have gone a bit pink around the edges. Wanting to reassure the little dragon (and needing some reassurance herself), Daine picks her up and settles her on her hip. "We'll just have to try another door," she says, turning to look for the way out... and doing a double-take when she spots a familiar figure not too far away.

"Doctor?"

Gabriel opens the door to his own room and wanders out into the hall. A soft "huh" escapes his lips before he opens the next available door. He can't help the smile that find its way onto his lips. He knows what the dream's gimmick is this time around. Familiarity. Comfort, of a kind.

He leans in the doorway and looks around at the room. "This is pretty telling, Peter."

Bruce finds himself back in his lab at Culver University. He's alone, surrounded by nothing but lab equipment. He can feel Hulk in the back of his mind, scoffing. Why is he back here? He was happy here, once, but the memories are bittersweet now, at best.

Looking around, he sees a door that he doesn't remember. Curious, he opens it and sees a long corridor, with many doors. Deciding he must be asleep, Bruce steps into the corridor and begins peeking into doors.

Dracula knows he is in his daylight trance and dreaming, but the room he is in seems very real. He is in the drawing room of the old Harker residence, where Mina spent the majority of her life. Here, in this room, they spent many wonderful hours together, when Jonathan was at work or away on business. They had often shared moments of intense passion here. Looking around fondly, Dracula noted an unfamiliar door, but ignores it, sitting on a sofa.

He is quite content to lose himself in pleasant memories.

The TARDIS might almost be worried that the telepathic current has gotten into her mind somehow and is mimicking her own architectural configurations, what with the dreaming minds all having rooms connected via a changing hallway. But she can't sense any hostile intent (or any intent, for that matter) and it might just be coincidence, so she decides to just go with it and starts exploring the other rooms.

In the first one she comes across, she senses another presence up in the air and stops to watch the curious figure flying about.

Andrew lounges on the couch, eyes turned to a television that's currently playing The Lion King. At first glance, the place he's in could almost pass for the living room of a flat...were it not for the blackness outside the few, small windows or the rounded shape of the room. Were this the real spaceship he and James inhabited together, there would be several levels to it, with access to all the amenities a half-human needs and to its cockpit. As it is, there is only a door that's not quite right for the rest of the room.

He sniffs to himself and glances up -- there's something missing here. Rather, someone.

"James?"

Peter, who had been busy tracing the lines of a poster with his eyes, starts at the voice coming from the doorway. He twists to look at Gabriel, staring at him in utter confusion for several long seconds. Gabriel can't be here. Mum and dad would never let him in.

"You can't come in here," he says when he finally finds his voice again. He's still not sure what's going on, but he knows he doesn't want Gabriel in here.

Yuri leans on an old-fashioned fence in the middle of Four Mile Park, eying a clump of cows with a disinterested, vaguely contented air. It's almost possible to forget he's standing in the middle of Denver when he looks around at the scrubby yellow farmland and Victorian era buildings. Even without a celebration going on right now or even other people anywhere to be seen, memories of fourth of July picnics and hokey old-fashioned games he and the other kids pretended not to like when they were young have come bubbling up.
