The Fortress of Many Turnings [open]

Welcome to Caerdroia. Though at first glance this world seems calm, even idyllic, closer inspection will reveal a startling lack of linearity. A doorway in one place can suddenly lead to another entirely, the locals going about their business seem totally unaware of your presence, and you may find reminders of home that are less than welcome -- and less than safe.

The countryside seems almost designed to set one at one's ease. Gentle, rolling hills overlook a town in the near distance, and herds of friendly cows cluster here and there (with unknown intent).

The Garden of Curiosities is a walled-off park. Inside, streams and paths wind through beautiful landscaping, and animals can be found on the loose everywhere. For the most part, these creatures are friendly (or at least indifferent) toward visitors, though their appearance might perturb. One might see an animal one has never encountered before, or one might find the garden inhabited by creatures from one's own world that are somehow changed, whether in size, color, or behavior. And, of course, one might find something rather more predatory has taken up residence….

The town hall never seems to be in the same place twice. Finding your way through the streets to any one particular building is an exercise in frustration, as the town seems to shift and change whenever part of it is out of your sight. The hall itself isn't much better once you get inside; stairwells have a habit of appearing on the ceiling, hallways turn into dead ends while your back is turned, and floors are liable to open up into fathomless pits.

The Labyrinth is where many journeys seem destined to end. The way out is, more often than not, the way in. Try to leave one part of Caerdroia, and the doorway might very well open into the labyrinth. And, like any good labyrinth, this one is home to a Minotaur. And, like any good Minotaur, this one would be more than happy to tear you to pieces.

[OOC: Once again, the shared dream is open to all characters, including those not currently in the game and those belonging to players who are not currently members. Once again, too, players are free to choose whether their characters see the dream for what it is, whether they are forced to abide by its rules, and whether they will remember this in the morning.]

For a fraction of a second Zagreus looks as absolutely shocked as a child hearing their parent swear for the first time. This quickly dissolves into a snort of laughter, so unexpected and uncontrived it leaves his throat feeling a little raw. It's been a long time since any person or circumstance has cleaned his metaphorical humour clock just so. "Sort of. Not really, no. I'm only incidentally related, and they're predominantly extinct. For the better, honestly, you'd find them as intolerable as I do." He really has to work on having a little better control of what he says while dreaming. There's a distinct tendency to ramble, and be more truthful than is his wont. He opts to change the subject, as much fun as it would be to lambast any time sensitives. "I have to say, you don't look a day over 80. I suppose murder and mayhem fall under clean living."

"I moisturize." Spike is about as willing to discuss the specifics of his own situation. "Spike, by the way." He leans over, hand extended in offering. "And you are?"
antitimelord: (yes i would)

Zagreus raises an eyebrow at that, but takes the hand anyway, as well as a sneaky poke at Spike's psyche. Who is even called Spike anyway? Not that Zagreus doesn't understand the urge, but these are precisely the pitfalls of choosing your own name, and they are to be avoided. "Zagreus." A real name for a real person, with good taste in names.

"I should have guessed you were a vampire." He has no particular feelings about them one way or another, unlike a proper time lord; the disappointment in his voice is directed at himself for not having guessed before checking. But the leather jacket and accent had thrown him off; Zagreus himself is dressed more appropriately for a vampire. He doesn't bother to pick much else out of Spike's mind.

Vampires who were known for torturing people with railroad spikes and named Spike, gosh. Spike pulls his hand back, offended at the unprovoked rummage through his brain. "Hey, no poking at the brain meat. It's inside my head for a reason, ya know."

He straightens his jacket and sidles a glare in Zagreus' direction. "Meet a lot of vampires like me, do you?"

It's not unprovoked--if something has a mind, Zagreus will probably give it a contemptuous rummage through like the early bird little old lady at a yard sale at least once. It is what it is. "I don't, in fact, meet any vampires at all. Or maybe I do and haven't noticed." He shrugs in completely insincere apology. "No need to get so up in the air, I didn't mean anything by it. I don't have the constitution for a liquid diet but I can relate."

"What do you have a constitution for then?" He's really hoping the answer here isn't anything to do with thought-probing. He'd like his brain to stay just the way it is, thanks.

Zagreus ponders that. It's tempting to say something very melodramatic like 'souls' but given the mental lecture about that kind of thing he'd just given to nobody in particular, in response to Spike's name, he decides against it. Anyway it would have been a terrible description. "Something more metaphorical than blood, but I'm still a creature of consumption at heart." Zagreus notes Spike seems a bit put off; aren't vampires supposed to be more stoic? This one apparently never got the memo. "I don't suppose psychic vampirism would really be off the table, actually. But don't worry. I haven't actually checked to see how much I even can do to a mind, in a dream."

"I'm so pleased." And really, where has Zagreus been getting his vampire information, Anne Rice novels? Stoic is boring, and anyone wearing a cravat in the modern world looks like a loon.

Speaking of. "You usually look like you're on your way to a fancy dress party?"
