The Tomato in the Mirror

Spring is in the air, and monsters are in your head. It will be hard to run from your fears tonight, though -- for you see, you are the thing lurking in your nightmares. Whether it's something that goes bump in the night, a ferocious animal, or even a person you find intimidating, you have become that which frightens you. Anyone who encounters you in this dreamscape will see the shape of you nightmares, and should you look into a mirror, well....

Dreamers will find themselves in an oversized funhouse whose twists, turns, and intersections turn it into a maze. There is no entrance and there is no exit, only branching hallways, tunnels, and ladders that divide and rejoin in baffling combinations. By the look of it, the funhouse has been here for years, slowly falling into decay as its lights burn out one by one and the bright paint chips and fades. The machinery, however, is still working, still ready to surprise these new guests. Hallways end suddenly in long, steep slides back down into the depths, floors lurch under dreamers' feet, and entire corridors spin horizontally. Elsewhere, dreamers might become lost in the mirror maze or get dropped into a vast ball pit.

[Mod note: Usual dream party rules are a go: apply the dream's transformation to your character(s) as you see fit, and decide for yourself whether they will remember these experiences in the morning. Both members and non-members are welcome to play all characters on this post, including those which are not currently part of the game's cast. Have at!]

Seeing him in this shape, all hissing and waving his tail around, is intensely satisfying and amusing. She only smiles contemptuously at his frankly rather vague threat. As though any altercation they might have in the dreaming would go any better for him than their last mental struggle did.

"And what is that going to accomplish?" she asks, intent on pointing out how foolish he is. "Do you honestly think I can't defend myself here?" In accordance with her words, a white cane with a very sharp blade and a red dragon's head casually appears in her hand and she sets it down in front of herself, folding her hands across the top.

Well, it's not a vorpal blade, at least. He isn't quite sure if that makes a difference, but he has to look for a silver lining where he can. Does she know how important it is that he not be killed in dreams? No, that's right, she doesn't know anything about that, or about his dream related abilities in general. He stops all his lashing and teakettle hissing and goes very still, hanging his head in a glarey sulk instead.

You're right. What could I possibly have been thinking? My ability to reason suffers so much, in dreams.

Well that's interesting, and, as always where he is involved, unsettling. Clearly he means more than he's saying, and she doesn't like it at all, not the least because it's ruining her superiority.

She tries not to let her confusion show too much, but her smile loses its bite and she sounds a little too serious when she asks chidingly, "Yes, what were you thinking?"

What does it matter? Nothing matters in dreams, that's the whole point. It's a good thing jabberwocks are fairly inscrutable, or he'd probably have just laughed at his own inside joke, instead of remaining reptilianly irascible. Still, his telepathic communication likely does a poor job of hiding his gloating, no matter how balefully he stares. And why am I a jabberwock, anyway? Why aren't you anything. Lack of imagination?
