I'll See You in My Dreams [WIDE-OPEN PARTY THREAD]

Sometimes the rift only gives the denizens of Manhattan strange dreams. Sometimes, two people will find themselves together in the Dreaming. And other times? Other times, the Dreaming takes hold of dozens of people at once, throwing them all together into one shared mental space while they sleep.

Tonight is one of those nights -- what's more, the rift has outdone itself this time, telepathic tendrils reaching out through the rift into other universes to pull in even those who haven't been physically transported to this world...yet. You might meet a stranger from another world, or you might run into your next-door neighbor. You might notice right away that this isn't the waking world and that you are not alone, or you may drift through blissfully unaware that anything is out of the ordinary. You might not even remember this in the morning at all.

And that's probably going to be fortunate for at least a few people, because what you will notice is the overwhelming desire to get cozy with someone. It's chilly in this big house where you've found yourself, but luckily for you, there are beds, beanbags, and blankets galore, all of them just perfect for getting cuddly with your new friends. Consider yourself lucky that dream-world cameras can't upload photos to the real-world internet.

[It's a Dreaming party, and everyone is welcome! Tag a friend, tag a stranger, whatever! Everyone who's been pulled in will be feeling unusually friendly and cuddly, so get a-snuggling. Some characters (particularly those with strong telepathic defenses) may not be as strongly affected as others; the extent of the Dreaming's effect on each character is up to the mun's discretion.

Also, when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Non-members are welcome to tag into this post, so feel free to voice-test new characters here, and to invite friends who aren't in the game to come do some meeting and greeting. If you've come upon this post and aren't a member of this game, you are welcome to tag into this post.

For those who are familiar with the brbG parties, this is basically like that. Post a tag with your character's arrival and await replies. Time is bendy in here, so each character can have multiple replies/threads. Have fun!]

Peter stiffens, his immediate reaction to wonder if it's so wise to cuddle up with an admitted murderer. Fortunately, the atmosphere of the dream has him relaxed enough to actually think about it instead of hurrying (or teleporting) away. Her husband -- she killed her husband, who was abusive alien scum and killed her brother. When he looks at it that way, it's a no-brainer. Their situations are not so different as that.

"Are you sure that counts as murder?" he asks. "I don't think it was murder when I killed the dread vampire Jerry."

Yeah, taking credit for that. Hey, it was his idea that got the vampire killed! He frowns, parsing out something else she said. "Who's 'they'?"

"His followers. Doesn't really matter. And I suppose technically you could count it as defending the Earth against alien invasion," she answers. "But trust me, it wasn't very heroic." Especially seeing as it was more or less an execution, than anything else. He'd been defeated and captured - there wasn't really any danger. Except the danger of him escaping. And his resurrection, well, that might have counted as a heroic sacrifice, if it wasn't for that she didn't really feel like she was sacrificing all that much. But Peter hasn't commented on her expecting to die.

"The real thing is never heroic," he shrugs. For how good it felt to know that Jerry was dead, it didn't undo anything. It didn't make him feel like a hero, that was for sure.

He gives a little snort, trying to lighten things. "Meeting me was better than dying, though, right?"
essentiallyharmless: (Grand as a whale)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, most things would be better than dying," she answers fairly. "But yeah, you've grown on me." She gives his stomach a little pat and smiles. She actually feels quite fond of him at this point. Certainly more than she's felt for anyone in a long time, but that's not really difficult to achieve.

"I can think of worse things," says Peter, ever the optimist. He makes a little bit of a face -- why the belly, Lucy? -- but when he stretches, he just settles in tighter against her.
essentiallyharmless: (Strong as an ox)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Lucy has tried to commit suicide before - yes she too can think of worse things. And the belly mostly because she already has her arm around his waist, so it was just easiest to reach. And honestly, she could've probably easily fallen asleep right here, but it would probably be kind of paradoxical, sleeping in a dream.

"You know how weirdly I reacted when I saw you?" she asks suddenly. "Well, see, you look exactly like my husband's best friend slash nemesis. He's the one who left me to rot in prison."

Granted, he mostly did so by failing to remember her, or perhaps deciding it wasn't his job to decide what to do. But he was the one in charge of the world-rescuing, he should've had tot clean up after himself too.

"What?" Peter doesn't throw quite the right squeaky inflection on the word to sound like when the Doctor says it, but the reaction is there to be noted. "No," he says decisively. He won't have that. "I don't look like anyone but myself. You must've seen wrong."

Somehow. He's confused on another point, though. "Was he some muckity-muck in the legal system, then?"
essentiallyharmless: (Funny as a joke)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Lucy snorts at the idea that she simply 'saw wrong'. He STILL looks like the Doctor to her, but she's gotten used to blocking them out, and familiar enough that she can easily tell them apart.

"No, he was another meddling immortal alien with too much power," she answers. And then after a moment, she adds "Yeah, there's an alien who looks like you. I'm sorry." At least she didn't say he was the one who looked like the Doctor.

Peter makes an annoyed sound. "That's all I need, a fucking doppelganger. And an alien doppelganger, isn't that just peachy."

Sulk mode: engaged. He still doesn't believe this alien really looks like him. Lucy's got an addled brain anyway.
essentiallyharmless: (Preened as a peacock)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
She reaches over and grabs him another beer from somewhere, to mollify his annoyance. "Well, let's just hope he doesn't come tumbling through the rift, too," she answers, closing her eyes and snuggling against him. Of course, if they'd been paying a bit closer attention to their surroundings, maybe mingled a bit more, they would've discovered that had already happened. But that's overrated, right?

"A stake through the heart works on aliens, doesn't it?" asks Peter, accepting the bribe-beer. Alcoholic bribes are the best bribes. No one's told him about Andrew, since he hasn't been down to the base since Andrew arrived and he doesn't have anyone particularly interested in looking out for him who would know. He's going to be seriously annoyed when he finds out he has two doppelgangers.
essentiallyharmless: (Set as a price)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Well," Lucy answers slowly. "I'm not sure you should kill him." As much as she may hold a grudge against him, she doesn't think he'd deserve to die. "He saved the Earth, after all. It's just me he doesn't care about." Not to mention that a stake through the heart wouldn't work - they'd just regenerate. "Oh, and they've got two hearts." She points to each side of Peter's chest to illustrate.
fucking_ebay: (thoughtful | confusion)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-03 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
"If you see your doppelganger, that's supposed to mean you're going to die soon," says Peter, about to explain that if one of them has to die, he'd rather it weren't him. He's not entirely serious, of course, but the idea of a double does make him uneasy -- historic accounts of vampires proved to be true, after all, so he's always wary that other tales of the supernatural will have something to them.

He blinks down at where she indicated on him. "Rest assured that I don't," he says. Then he adds thoughtfully, "Two stakes, then."
essentiallyharmless: (Straight as a line)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I know," she answers - she can hear his single heart, after all. "And that won't kill them," she adds. "Actually, I have no idea how to kill them permanently. They can regenerate, they're over a thousand years old or something." Hey, better Peter hears about it from her, right? If it becomes an issue. "The Doctor - that's your double's name - won't harm you unless you hurt someone yourself. He's got a bit of a hero complex."
fucking_ebay: (smile | laugh)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-03 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Regenerate? So if you chop off their tails, they'll grow new ones?" Peter laughs at his own joke. He snorts at the description of this 'Doctor' person. "As long as he stays away from me, I don't care," he informs her.
essentiallyharmless: (Bruised as a peach)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
"No, if you kill them, they just grow entire new bodies," she answers. Not that she's seen it happen. The Master had the same body because he never regenerated. "So it's possible for them to show up and we not recognise them at all." Because you know, she needed to add another subject to the list of why they can be pretty terrifying.
fucking_ebay: (interested | doe eyes)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-03 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Which wouldn't necessarily be my problem, would it?" replies Peter, still thinking of the doppelganger issue rather than that of her terrible husband possibly showing up. "For all I know anyway, you could be one of them."

Yet he isn't shying away. Maybe he doesn't mean it.
essentiallyharmless: (Grand as a whale)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've only got the one heart," she answers. She doesn't voice the possibility that Peter is the Doctor, turned human with fake memories. Partly because she doesn't think the Doctor would pick Peter as a cover story, and partly because, well, she doesn't need to worry Peter with that. Instead she just worries Peter with stuff that's relevant to her.
fucking_ebay: (misc | lock and load)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-03 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Who would pick Peter's life as a cover story? He's not exactly inconspicuous.

"You're the only one who's told me about the two-hearts thing," he points out. "But you know how unlikely you are to see anyone from back home again, right?"
essentiallyharmless: (Good as done)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-03 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Except for the part where I'd been here less than a day before the rift dropped Zagreus on me," she points out. So not THAT unlikely, even if she knew him through other strange transtemporal parties rather than Earth, but still. "He probably has two hearts too, for the record," she adds as it occurs to her. As far as she's aware, his body's like the Doctor's, but infected? Something like that. She hasn't asked about the details.
fucking_ebay: (misc | lock and load)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-03 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is he one of them?" Peter's perturbed by the thought. He still isn't clear on what Zagreus is, though he feels he knows enough to know to stay away. "And how do you know he didn't...do something that got him here?"
essentiallyharmless: (Set as a price)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-05 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't, but I don't see why he would. Not intentionally or with forethought, anyway," she answers. She can see him getting involved in something, but no, she's fairly sure he didn't intend it.

"And he's not a Time Lord, but he... stole the Doctor's body? Possessed him? I honestly don't know, but if you meet someone who looks like Zagreus but with a more friendly disposition, that might be the Doctor." More insights in how ridiculous Lucy's world is.
fucking_ebay: (angry | flipping you off)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-06 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Peter narrows his eyes. "You said the Doctor looked like me -- you went on like you were worried you'd run into him, and now you're telling me he's possessed by Zagreus? Which is it?"
essentiallyharmless: (Quiet as a mouse)

[personal profile] essentiallyharmless 2013-03-06 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Both," she answers. "Like I said, if you kill them, they grow new bodies. Zagreus has the body of an earlier version of the Doctor, whereas you look like a more recent one -- the one I'm used to actually. Kept him as a pet for roundabout a year." Oversharing again? Probably. "Time travel, remember?"
fucking_ebay: (angry | gun)

[personal profile] fucking_ebay 2013-03-06 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so multiple versions of the Doctor at once is completely unacceptable and had better be impossible, but there's a more pressing issue to talk about here. "As a pet?" he asks incredulously. "Is that -- you're not getting any ideas, are you? Because I'm not him."
