I'll See You in My Dreams [WIDE-OPEN PARTY THREAD]

Sometimes the rift only gives the denizens of Manhattan strange dreams. Sometimes, two people will find themselves together in the Dreaming. And other times? Other times, the Dreaming takes hold of dozens of people at once, throwing them all together into one shared mental space while they sleep.

Tonight is one of those nights -- what's more, the rift has outdone itself this time, telepathic tendrils reaching out through the rift into other universes to pull in even those who haven't been physically transported to this world...yet. You might meet a stranger from another world, or you might run into your next-door neighbor. You might notice right away that this isn't the waking world and that you are not alone, or you may drift through blissfully unaware that anything is out of the ordinary. You might not even remember this in the morning at all.

And that's probably going to be fortunate for at least a few people, because what you will notice is the overwhelming desire to get cozy with someone. It's chilly in this big house where you've found yourself, but luckily for you, there are beds, beanbags, and blankets galore, all of them just perfect for getting cuddly with your new friends. Consider yourself lucky that dream-world cameras can't upload photos to the real-world internet.


[It's a Dreaming party, and everyone is welcome! Tag a friend, tag a stranger, whatever! Everyone who's been pulled in will be feeling unusually friendly and cuddly, so get a-snuggling. Some characters (particularly those with strong telepathic defenses) may not be as strongly affected as others; the extent of the Dreaming's effect on each character is up to the mun's discretion.

Also, when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Non-members are welcome to tag into this post, so feel free to voice-test new characters here, and to invite friends who aren't in the game to come do some meeting and greeting. If you've come upon this post and aren't a member of this game, you are welcome to tag into this post.

As if Andrew isn't super tactile already. He can be found lurking in the perfect pillow fort -- or rather, he can't, because from the outside it just looks like a big pile of cushions and blankets. That illusion will hold right up until the moment he sweeps aside a blanket serving as a door and tackle-glomps whoever passed within reach.

Daine had been prowling around as a snow leopard in her earlier dream, and it doesn't occur to her to change shapes now that she's suddenly in a rather drafty house. She pads down a hallway, looking around curiously. Then a rather familiar scent reaches her nostrils, and she drops into a crouch in front of a fragile looking blanket fort. Her hindquarters rise, waggling a little in excitement as she prepares to pounce.

Handrew whips open the flap with a triumphant cry, not questioning how he knows there's someone on the other side when he can barely hear them, and springs. He notices several moments too late that he's jumping at a leopard, and his shout turns to a squawk as he hurtles through the air.

Daine, on the other hand, isn't the least bit surprised to see Andrew. She launches herself at him with a gleeful, Andreeewwww!, her front paws wrapping around his neck in a good approximation of a hug.

Down they go in a pile of fluffy cushions, Andrew somehow noticing as they tumble that he's not being bitten or clawed -- really, it's like being tackled by a giant stuffed toy. Also, voice in head. How unusual!

"...What??" he asks when they come to rest, seriously confused.

It's me, Daine! Hullo! She punctuates her greeting with an affectionate lick to the head. She has enough presence of mind to avoid his skin with her rough tongue, but she hasn't done his hair any favors.

"Daine?" Andrew squirms a little in a vain attempt to escape the tongue bath. Alas, he is still left with a swath of hair stuck up at an odd angle where she licked it. Now that he's aware he's not being eaten by a leopard, though, it's time to get his back. He runs his fingers through her thick fur, then wraps his arms around her and tries to drag her into the fort. "Daine, you need to see this fort I made!"

Leopards can't purr, but she lets out a pleased little chuffing sound and shuts her eyes, enjoying the attention.

Even being awkwardly half-hoisted off the ground doesn't bother her. She pushes off the ground with her hind legs so Andrew won't have to support her full weight, though even her full weight isn't all that much. She's only about 50 pounds in this shape, though all the fluff makes her look heavier. Okay! Did you make it all yourself? She eyes the fort curiously, whiskers forward.

Honestly, he's like a toddler dragging around an overgrown house-cat. Andrew hauls her into the interior of the fort, which seems suspiciously large compared to the exterior.

"Yes," he smiles. Then, looking disappointed with himself, he admits, "No. But I improved it!"

It's huge! Daine says, impressed. It didn't look this big from outside. It's a little difficult for her to move much given how Andrew's holding her, but she manages to press the top of her head against his chest in a sort of fond head-butt. This is a great fort!

"I know, right? Come on, you haven't seen the turret yet!"

...How does a blanket fort have a turret?

Daine squirms a bit so she can brace her forepaws against Andrew's arm. Turret? How did you manage that?

"Engineering," Andrew informs her primly. "And science. You can't climb on it, though, it's made of pillows."

He pulls her over to a corner, where there's a little hole leading into a round space -- a turret!

The Doctor is just strolling around casually, hands in pockets, a stray kitten on his shoulder, and pauses to admire the pillow fort -- pillow castle? There's at least one turret there.

Andrew doesn't even check to see who's on the other side of the flap. He sees feet and hears the soft sounds of a person breathing, and that's enough. He might reconsider if he knew he might be endangering a kitten, but he doesn't, so he doesn't.

"Aha!!" HAVE A FLYING TACKLE-CLONE, TEN!

Thankfully, for both Andrew and the kitten, it's another manifestation rather than actual real kitten (but don't ask how that works in the dreaming), so it simply disappears. The Doctor is not so lucky.

"Wha-- Oof!" is the only thing he has time to say as he's bowled over by a very familiar-looking person. When they've finished rolling/sliding along the floor, he has Questions. The easiest way to sum them up is by finishing what he was going to say. "...What?"

"Aha!" repeats Handrew as they skid to a stop. He lifts his head, propping himself up to see who he's caught, and --

"...Ooh." He squints at the other man. Could it be? Perhaps! "Peter, I presume," he says, extricating an arm and sticking his hand out to shake.

"...I was gonna ask you the same thing," the Doctor answers, propping himself up a bit. Also, from what he gathers, Peter wouldn't wear this -- well, what either of them are wearing, really. Which means... actually, he has no idea what that means, besides that this is apparently not Peter. Honestly it appears to be himself. It's not even too unlikely he'd tackle someone from a pillow fort, given then influences of this place.

"...Ah." Andrew gives the Doctor a disappointed look, then pulls back into a crouch to survey him. Pinstripes -- oh, bugger, the pinstripes. "Not Peter," he says decisively, scooting away and climbing to his feet. "What are you doing here?" he asks sharply.

"What do you mean what am I doing here, what are you doing here?" he answers from still on the floor, looking up at Andrew with much more confusion than he seems to show. "No, hold on, I mean - who are you?"

Because he doesn't think it's a future version of himself. But he apparently recognised the Doctor.

Andrew furrows his brow at the Doctor. "You don't know?" he asks incredulously. Then, less incredulously, "You don't know, do you?"

Well, that complicates matters. Or maybe it doesn't -- maybe he can just use this as an opportunity to turn tail and not even have this conversation. He hasn't seen or spoken to his progenitor since his progenation, and he hasn't been particularly keen to change that.

"No," he answers, pushing himself to his feet and adjusting his suit jacket. "I don't know. So would you care to explain, since apparently you do?" He puts his hands in his pockets and looks at Andrew expectantly. And if he decides to make a run for it, Ten will chase him, so no luck there.

Andrew considers. "...No," he answers after a moment. "No, I don't think I would."

With one quick motion, he stoops, grabs a pillow and throws it at the Doctor's face. Then he takes the moment of understandable distraction that should generate to run back the way he came and duck into his awesome fort, immediately grabbing up the cushions from the floor to block up the doorway.

Shouldn't have put his hands in his pockets, makes it much more difficult to defend himself against impending pillows quickly enough. After the pillow, he just has time to see Andrew disappearing inside the pillow fort.

"HEY!" he saves and gives chase, but unfortunately he runs straight into the pillow door that's now in place (probably held there by Andrew at the moment), and bounces back, landing once again on his backside. He's been doing that a lot today.

"Hey!" he repeats, standing up and knocking hard on the door. It doesn't actually give my off much noise, though. "Get back out here!"

Andrew is indeed holding up the door from the inside. He was quick enough to wedge a couple big pillows in behind the blanket flap, but now he has to keep pressure on them from his side to keep the Doctor from knocking them in.

"Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" he calls back, enjoying himself a little too much. Serve the Doctor right, after what he did. On a very slightly more serious (and perhaps 60% true) note, he follows it up with, "It's for your own good!"
