It's Saturday night and you're hallucinating in your sleep!

It's that time again! The rift has caught the good little dreamers of New York (and beyond) in its currents and washed them ashore on a desert island in a dream wonderland. This time, however, quite a noticeable change has come over each of the attendees of this nocturnal party.

All the people who arrive in this shared mindspace will find that they have been transformed into some sort of animal they find familiar or that resembles them. They will find that they can still communicate with one another and that they still have all their mental faculties, but might be a little…well…influenced by the forms they have taken on.

They will also find that they have been deposited in the middle of the largest, most elaborate playground they have ever seen. Climbing equipment and slides of the sort meant for human children are in evidence, but so are cat trees, meadows, tunnels, pools and ponds, aerial obstacle courses, and anything else the mind can imagine, for as far as the eye can see.

[OOC: The usual dream party rules apply: players apply the party's theme (in this case, transformation) to their characters according to their own discretion, and both members and non-members are more than welcome to use this post to try out characters not yet in the game. Usual dreaming rules also apply, in that players can choose whether or not their characters will remember this in the morning. Have at!]

Andrew had been settling himself in for a good sit atop the tree before she replied. He bounces back to his feet, slipping a foot off the platform and nearly falling right off.

"Charley?" he asks incredulously, tail wagging. "Charley, is that you?"

"Of course it is," she declares, stretching luxuriously in the sunlight. "It's my dream after all. Or so I assume." She thinks about his voice, but she's relatively sure she's never heard it before...

"I don't recognize your voice, though. Do I know you?"

"And here I'd thought it was mine," he teases. "I should say you know me! Well -- sort of. As much as you can know a person from your future. I know you, how about that?"

Nope, still not outright telling her. Let her at least start to work it out on her own.

"Oh, well that's helpful!" she protests, a bit put out. "If you're from my future, you shouldn't say anything, or be in my dreams, I should think." Of course, that provides a bit of a clue to his identity right there, if she thinks about it. Which of course she does - she can't resist the chance to puzzle it out.

"But you said I do know you, before you said you were from my future, and you seemed ever so put out that I didn't recognize your voice, even though I know you were having me on..." You can almost see the switches flipping on as everything slots into place. "Doctor! It is, isn't it, you're the Doctor!"

His tail wags faster and faster as Charley puzzles it out, fanning the white fur out like a flag used by someone very enthusiastically signalling surrender. "Yes!" he says, literally yipping his agreement. "...Sort of!" he adds a moment later, showing a surprising level of maturity -- when he was still new, he would have jumped at the chance to pretend to be the Doctor. Now, though...now he finds he'd like to be known for who he is.

But not enough to explain. Rushing on, he says, "But look at you! You're a cat! When is it, for you?"

Charley jumps down and twines around his legs. She really isn't surprised that's her first instinct, she's a cat. That's what cats do, don't they? "What is that supposed to mean, sort of?" Charley asks curiously, sitting in front of him and tilting her head slightly.

"I was... I was... you know, I'm not entirely sure. It's a bit fuzzy, you see." Her tail twitches a bit. "There was all that business with Anti-Time, and then we were on the Time Station and... I'm not sure. I'm not sure where here is, though, I thought it was a dream but this is awfully strange even for a dream."

"It's been quite a while," he informs her. There's sadness in his tone, the experience of seeing an old companion again just as bittersweet as it ever is. And Charley....

Charley is from earlier than that, he tells himself firmly. How much earlier exactly he's not sure -- many of the memories he inherited from the Doctor are hazy when accessed by an all too human brain, and the Doctor who knew her always was prone to memory loss.

"It is a dream," he says. "It's a shared dream -- we've been linked together by the rift in the center of this world's Manhattan. Happens...mmm, fairly often, actually. The animal thing is new, though."

"Well, however it's happening, we're both here now," she says. Gets up on her back feet to butt her head against the bottom of his chin. Purr purr purr. "So none of that maudlin, self-pitying ridiculousness. Don't try to pretend you weren't doing it, I've travelled with you long enough to recognize that sort of thing."

She drops back down and cleans her whiskers demurely. He'd better not try to deny it. Not to her.

"I never!" he protests. Well, if that's how she's going to be -- dancing forward (this form always seems to be prancing or bouncing), he lays a big, wet lick kiss on the top of her head. "It's good to see you."
theheroheart: (big grin)

[personal profile] theheroheart 2013-06-04 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"You always," Charley says, but there's a laugh in her voice, and she accepts the sloppy doggy kiss without complaint, though she immediately and instinctively starts grooming after.

"It's rather good to see you, too, alive and presumably with a new face and all. I was worried, a bit, during all this mess."

Andrew flops down on the grass beside her, flicking his tongue in and out to clear it of hair. "New face, new teeth, new everything," he agrees. "I do mean it -- I'm from a good while on. I can't tell you much."
