I'll See You in My Dreams [WIDE-OPEN PARTY THREAD]

Sometimes the rift only gives the denizens of Manhattan strange dreams. Sometimes, two people will find themselves together in the Dreaming. And other times? Other times, the Dreaming takes hold of dozens of people at once, throwing them all together into one shared mental space while they sleep.

Tonight is one of those nights -- what's more, the rift has outdone itself this time, telepathic tendrils reaching out through the rift into other universes to pull in even those who haven't been physically transported to this world...yet. You might meet a stranger from another world, or you might run into your next-door neighbor. You might notice right away that this isn't the waking world and that you are not alone, or you may drift through blissfully unaware that anything is out of the ordinary. You might not even remember this in the morning at all.

And that's probably going to be fortunate for at least a few people, because what you will notice is the overwhelming desire to get cozy with someone. It's chilly in this big house where you've found yourself, but luckily for you, there are beds, beanbags, and blankets galore, all of them just perfect for getting cuddly with your new friends. Consider yourself lucky that dream-world cameras can't upload photos to the real-world internet.


[It's a Dreaming party, and everyone is welcome! Tag a friend, tag a stranger, whatever! Everyone who's been pulled in will be feeling unusually friendly and cuddly, so get a-snuggling. Some characters (particularly those with strong telepathic defenses) may not be as strongly affected as others; the extent of the Dreaming's effect on each character is up to the mun's discretion.

Also, when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Non-members are welcome to tag into this post, so feel free to voice-test new characters here, and to invite friends who aren't in the game to come do some meeting and greeting. If you've come upon this post and aren't a member of this game, you are welcome to tag into this post.

Daine rights herself and gives her head a little shake. It's tiring in the real world, though. Not as easy as here.

Jack pauses to give a full-bodied sneeze and to shake himself out, then sets about climbing on top of her. Yeah? I guess I wouldn't know.

Daine shifts back into snow leopard shape and rolls over, pinning Jack down with her front paws so she can lick his ears. You'll have to take my word for it. Though that reminds her. What do you do when you're not being a fox?

For a moment or two, Jack squirms and tries to escape. He soon settles, though, finding himself content to hold still as long as it involves some form of cuddling. It's just because she's currently bigger, he tells himself.

Snow days, mostly, he replies with a thwap of his bushy tail.

Daine leaves off licking his ears and blinks curiously. What does that mean?

You've never had a snow day? That's quite tragic, actually. I make it snow -- if I bring enough snow, the kids get to have the day off from school. Snow ball fights, sledding, ice skating....

Best things in life, if you ask him.

Growing up in a mountain village means Daine's familiar with most of those activities; it's just getting let out of school that she can't relate to. But that's not what really caught her ear. You make it snow?

And frost -- thus the whole Jack Frost thing, I guess. He turns his head to blink at her in turn, ears cupped forward. ...Oh, right, you don't know about me, do you?

Huh. It makes sense, she supposes. Even in fox shape, he smells like winter. Are you some sort of god, then? If so, maybe she shouldn't be pinning him down and washing his ears.

Jack laughs -- that is, he makes an appalling squeaking/squealing sound. The way it comes out just makes him laugh harder, not actually bothered about his dignity. Me? I kind of doubt it. Not by his standard of what constitutes a god, that's for sure.

Daine lets out a rather undignified snort in response to the racket he's making. It's reassuring to hear he's not a god. It wouldn't be the first time she ran into one in her dreams, and even if he's not one of her gods, it probably wouldn't be wise to disrespect him too much.

Good, Daine replies, resting her chin on his back.

Maybe he should have said he really was one -- it might have been funny. Jack gives a little sigh of contentment despite the missed opportunity. I don't know what you'd call someone like me, he comments.

Me, neither, Daine says frankly as she considers the available options. We have water nymphs. Maybe you're like one of those, only with frozen water. But that doesn't really sound right, and she's not sure if nymphs control water or just live in it. I don't think we have anything like you in my realm.

Jack snorts in amusement. A nymph? That's a new one. And not a term he thinks he likes too well. He flicks his tail, since it's the only part of him that can really move right now.

Daine snorts as his tail brushes her nose, then rolls over onto her back, hauling Jack along with her so he's still hugged between her paws. They're new in my realm, too - sort of. They used to live in the Divine Realms for hundreds of years, but then mages started putting holes in the barrier. Now, we've got all sorts of immortals coming through.

This is so unfair, comments Jack, squirming to get comfortable again in the new position. I guess I'm probably immortal, he muses. Been around long enough so far.
