I'll See You in My Dreams [WIDE-OPEN PARTY THREAD]

Sometimes the rift only gives the denizens of Manhattan strange dreams. Sometimes, two people will find themselves together in the Dreaming. And other times? Other times, the Dreaming takes hold of dozens of people at once, throwing them all together into one shared mental space while they sleep.

Tonight is one of those nights -- what's more, the rift has outdone itself this time, telepathic tendrils reaching out through the rift into other universes to pull in even those who haven't been physically transported to this world...yet. You might meet a stranger from another world, or you might run into your next-door neighbor. You might notice right away that this isn't the waking world and that you are not alone, or you may drift through blissfully unaware that anything is out of the ordinary. You might not even remember this in the morning at all.

And that's probably going to be fortunate for at least a few people, because what you will notice is the overwhelming desire to get cozy with someone. It's chilly in this big house where you've found yourself, but luckily for you, there are beds, beanbags, and blankets galore, all of them just perfect for getting cuddly with your new friends. Consider yourself lucky that dream-world cameras can't upload photos to the real-world internet.


[It's a Dreaming party, and everyone is welcome! Tag a friend, tag a stranger, whatever! Everyone who's been pulled in will be feeling unusually friendly and cuddly, so get a-snuggling. Some characters (particularly those with strong telepathic defenses) may not be as strongly affected as others; the extent of the Dreaming's effect on each character is up to the mun's discretion.

Also, when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Non-members are welcome to tag into this post, so feel free to voice-test new characters here, and to invite friends who aren't in the game to come do some meeting and greeting. Just because he doesn't need anyone, doesn't mean he doesn't want someone, right? If it does, too bad, cause here's Lucy, plopping down next to him and stealing his beer with a grin.

It does, actually. At least, that's what he'd say if she bothered to ask him, which obviously she doesn't. How typical of her.

"Get your own!" he protests, one skinny arm emerging from the blanket to make a grab for the bottle.

Lucy dodges him, trying to hold him off with one arm without getting up or moving away, and trying to take a drink at the same time as she fights him off. While laughing a bit. Some spilling occurs, obviously.

Peter ought to be outraged. She stole his beer! The sight of her spilling it down her front as she tries to ward him off is too much, though, and he can't help but laugh as he flails in the general direction of the beer.

She does manage to get a few sips! Not very effective, though. "Alright, alright," she laughs, handing it back. Thanks to the fact it's a dream, she's more or less unbothered by the spilled beer, even if it should be cold, wet, sticky and smelly, as it doesn't occur to her that she should be bothered. "You win this round, Vincent."

"Course I do," grins Peter, taking the beer and taking a swig. "I always win."

Terrible, terrible lie. He eyes her thoughtfully, then starts peeling open his blanket cocoon. Maybe she'll join him in it? Except he won't invite her to, not explicitly, because of course he doesn't want that.

"Bet I'd beat you at netball," she answers, rolling over to look for another drink. Amazingly, there is one right there, something nice and fruity, but not quite as sweet as Peter usually likes.

When she rolls back over with her drink, she conveniently lands pretty snugly next to him in the blanket cocoon. May not have been an accident. She's even gonna be nice and not comment on it, so Peter won't have to get all defensive.

"Well, if you're going to pick something useless." And he'll just be closing the cocoon around the both of them, because she's letting the cold air in by piling in like that. Tut tut, Lucy; he'll just have to live with having her pressed up against him. Somehow, he will survive.

They will struggle on, together in their cocoon. Oh, it's nice and cozy in here, actually. Good thing this drink is in a bottle rather than a glass, or she'd have trouble not spilling more, what with the blanket rather impeding her wiggleroom.

"Hey, I was on the all-national team when I was in school, don't knock it," she answers, though still smiling. "Not a sports man? You were probably more into drama, huh?" She's going by his love of showmanship here.

"Maybe," replies Peter, taking another drink. Look, isn't she proud? He's drinking something other than sugar-swill! And look, he almost answered a question about his past! "Boys don't play netball anyway, remember?"

She's very proud. She won't comment on it though, since pointing it out will likely frighten him off. "Well, I don't know, I went to Roedean, it's an all-girls school," she argues. She does actually know, but whatever.

And if he's heard of that, he may realise she went to a rather fancy and expensive boarding school for nearly the entirety of her teens. Of course, he already knows she's the daughter of a Lord, so it should hardly be surprising.

"Did you." No, Peter is not surprised. "Parents couldn't stand you at home, needed to send you away? And I thought I was bad back then."

Har har boarding school, what losers all those rich kids are and my, those grapes do look sour.

Lucy rolls her eyes, though she's too cheerful to let him really hit a nerve. "Or they wanted the best future for their daughter. Look how that turned out," she answers, raising her bottle in a toast and taking a drink.

"What, they didn't have a course on avoiding alien wankers?" Sensitivity, thy name is Peter Vincent. He toasts and drinks some more beer -- it's nice how his bottle doesn't seem to be getting any closer to empty. "They never teach the really useful stuff, do they?"

Even though half the bottle went over Lucy. Though you couldn't tell anymore. And if she wanted sensitivity, she wouldn't be talking to Peter.

"I meant to take How To Avoid The Apocalypse 101, but they were full up," Lucy answers, trying to think up course names. "And I failed How To Know When You're Dating An Immortal, Time-Traveling, Telepathic Alien Bent On World Domination And Mind Rewriting." Yep, she's over-sharing again.

"They didn't offer How to Survive a Vampire Attack until I was in secondary," muses Peter. "Much too fucking late to be covering that material, thanks. Got to get it in early."

Lucy pauses, taken aback by Peter actually returning her oversharing. And while what he's saying comes as a bit of a surprise, it does make perfect sense, when she considers it.

She doesn't want to interrupt, in case he wants to share more, but she feels a surprising amount of sympathy for him. So she reaches over to wrap an arm around him, snuggling a bit closer to sort of comfort him.

This would've gone so differently if it happened in real life.

Peter rests his head against hers. So strange to be cuddling up with someone. He finds he likes it more than he would have expected. So relaxing. Eyes sliding shut, he adds ambiguously, "I think he was fucking with me."

Very relaxing, and there's something about this dream that just seems to remove the majority of her/their self-consciousness. "Who?" she asks quietly, confused now, but hoping the question won't remind him that he's actually sharing.

"The vampire." That seems like it should be self explanatory. "Hiding in the closet? Give me a fucking break, that'd never work."

Especially now that he knows what type of vampire it was. That had been one of the ways he'd reassured himself that it hadn't been real, though -- because if it had been real, he wouldn't have survived.

"Why would he do that?" she asks. Lucy doesn't actually know what happened to Peter's parents yet. It doesn't make sense to her that a vampire would just let a victim/witness go.

"To fuck with me," reiterates Peter, skirting the question. It's hard enough to face the fact that the worst day of his life was just a game for the creature, without putting it all into words.

"It took someone else?" she asks carefully, sensing that might be something he's avoiding. She doesn't want to push her luck, but she doesn't want the opportunity slip by either.

"What do you think?" And there, he appears to have hit his limit. Peter opens his eyes, shifting to press a little less closely against her. Part of him still wants to go on and just tell her everything, but another part of him is arguing that it's none of her business.

That's a yes, then. But who? Family? Siblings, parents? Friend? Girlfriend? She's not going to push the subject. The specifics aren't really important.

She just wants to let him know that she would actually be there to listen if he wants to share, but she's not sure how. When he shifts, so does she, but rather than move away from him, she moves up a bit and puts her hand on his cheek, turning his face towards him, and she kisses him. Not the rushed, messy, sexual kisses they've shared so far, but just a sweet, gentle one.
