I'll See You in My Dreams [WIDE-OPEN PARTY THREAD]

Sometimes the rift only gives the denizens of Manhattan strange dreams. Sometimes, two people will find themselves together in the Dreaming. And other times? Other times, the Dreaming takes hold of dozens of people at once, throwing them all together into one shared mental space while they sleep.

Tonight is one of those nights -- what's more, the rift has outdone itself this time, telepathic tendrils reaching out through the rift into other universes to pull in even those who haven't been physically transported to this world...yet. You might meet a stranger from another world, or you might run into your next-door neighbor. You might notice right away that this isn't the waking world and that you are not alone, or you may drift through blissfully unaware that anything is out of the ordinary. You might not even remember this in the morning at all.

And that's probably going to be fortunate for at least a few people, because what you will notice is the overwhelming desire to get cozy with someone. It's chilly in this big house where you've found yourself, but luckily for you, there are beds, beanbags, and blankets galore, all of them just perfect for getting cuddly with your new friends. Consider yourself lucky that dream-world cameras can't upload photos to the real-world internet.


[It's a Dreaming party, and everyone is welcome! Tag a friend, tag a stranger, whatever! Everyone who's been pulled in will be feeling unusually friendly and cuddly, so get a-snuggling. Some characters (particularly those with strong telepathic defenses) may not be as strongly affected as others; the extent of the Dreaming's effect on each character is up to the mun's discretion.

Also, when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Non-members are welcome to tag into this post, so feel free to voice-test new characters here, and to invite friends who aren't in the game to come do some meeting and greeting. If you've come upon this post and aren't a member of this game, you are welcome to tag into this post.

For those who are familiar with the brbG parties, this is basically like that. Post a tag with your character's arrival and await replies. Time is bendy in here, so each character can have multiple replies/threads. Have fun!]

"Is that what this is?" He glances around at the assembled crowd, the overall comfiness and cuddly attitude. He'd had suspicions when he'd first arrived that this had been Topher's doing, but it doesn't really have his mark on it. "Looks more like the overture to an orgy to me."

[brink]

Topher snorts. "I hope not." If it is, he's out of here. Orgies are very much not his thing. The closest he's ever gotten to an orgy has been to write imprints for dolls that were going to one.

Gabriel chuckles. "I'm hurt. You wouldn't want to get in on this?" He gestures extravagantly to the length of his own body. "Let me tell you. Missing. Out."

[brink]

"I'll live," he answers, unimpressed. A tiny part of him is worried that this is Gabriel hitting on him (Topher was always bad at telling stuff like that), but he's pretty sure he's just a bit of an egoist who likes joking around, probably. Hopefully.

It's a bit of both, honestly. He wouldn't mind if Topher ever got interested in him, but he doesn't really care enough to be serious about it. He pats Topher on the back and sits down in the nearest plush surface. Calling it a couch would be passing over the fact that it could probably fit three people lying down. He scoots back and crosses his legs, looking up at Topher. "So what's the news?"

It is pretty unlikely that Topher would ever be interested in him that way. And even if he were, it's unlikely he would actually do anything about it. Not impossible, and wouldn't even go against his orientation, but definitly unlikely.

"Who said I had news?" he asks. And no, he's not going to join Gabriel in sitting down.

Aww, come on, sit down. Have a cuddle.

He shrugs. "General statement. I figured you'd be floating on a cloud by now. And here you are..." He swirls a finger toward Topher's face. "...all grumpyface. What's up with that?"

[brink]

Not with Gabriel.

"My ability means I'm not so easily affected by places like this," he answers. He's totally going to pretend that's what Gabriel is referring to, and not the business with Bennett.

What if he looked like a hot brunette? Because he could totally do that. Too creepy?

He raises his eyebrows at him, letting him avoid the topic he's avoiding. For now. "Too bad. Everyone has been very cuddly."

[brink]

Definitely too creepy. And wouldn't actually make much of a difference to Topher. Besides, he's already a hot brunette.

Yay for letting Topher avoid topics. "Yes, I've noticed. Daine was lovely," he offers, trying to carry enough conversation to distracted Gabriel from the topic he's avoiding.

Awwh yeah

"She's here?" He smiles and casts a glance away from Topher to the room at large. He thinks that Daine is lovely, but he doesn't really know about the transforming-into-animals thing yet.

[brink]

"She's currently in the shape of a snow leopard," he explains. She's around here somewhere. And if Gabriel asks about the animal thing, Topher could always pretend it's a dream thing, and avoid sharing Daine's secret without her approval. Even if Gabriel does seem to know her. Or perhaps especially since Gabriel seems to know her, if Daine hasn't told him herself.

"A snow leopard. Hm." Gabriel doesn't even consider the possibility that Daine might do that sort of thing outside of a dream-scape. Instead, he's wondering why she might choose that form in particular for this setting. Leopards don't exactly have a history of being cuddly.

[brink]

Topher shrugs. "She was very soft to hug," he answers. And slightly less awkward than hugging other human-shaped people. "Most people tend to appear as what they look like in real life, though," he adds. Because obviously this isn't his first dream shindig.

[has_a_horn]

He chuckles. "And you won't even sit next to me. I see how it is." He's trying to figure out if he actually is offended at how wary Topher seems to be off him. He's going to go with no. Things are easier that way. He swings his legs around, stretching out and eliminating the originally offered space. "I should reintroduce myself. What do you think? Wouldn't want to be something she'd feel like eating. Wolf? Coyote?"

[brink]

He's still a little huffy about Gabriel spying on him and Bennett. Also about putting him in ridiculous beachwear. His grudge won't last forever. He doesn't think Gabriel is a bad guy, just a little bit of an ass, maybe. "A donkey?" he suggests. Get it?

Hey, that ridiculous beachwear was way more flattering than the Aragorn cape.

And see this? This is Gabriel's 'valiantly trying not to look amused' face. He levels a glare at him. "Hee haw, Brink."

[brink]

But not the kind of flattering that Topher prefers. He likes layers. The only time he showed any skin besides face and hands back home was when he was in private, or high - and that wasn't his fault.

Topher, however, does actually crack a smile. "Fine. A giraffe? You know, for a bit of a change," he answers. Yes, now he's teasing Gabriel for his height. It's making him feel better, okay?

He chuckles. Just a bit. Wouldn't want Topher to get too cocky, here. "I can turn you into a frog, you know." Well, he could make him think he a frog. Same difference.

"Or..." He squints up at him, scrutinizing his face. "Pelican? Ferret?"

[brink]

"Not in here, you can't," he answers. That's not actually a challenge to do it elsewhere. Even Topher doesn't have much power here, in this shared dreamspace that doesn't belong to anyone, at least not besides over himself.

"Pelican actually sounds pretty funny," he answers, considering it, relaxing a bit more now. "Or a platypus. Though I have no idea if leopards eat platypus."

[has_a_horn]

"They might, if they lived anywhere near each other." He rolls his eyes. "and I meant you look like a pelican. Honestly."

[brink]

"Yeah, I got it," he answers and taps his nose. He's got a huge beak, yeah yeah. "Still sounds funny. Though I have to disagree with ferret." He doesn't see that resemblance.

[has_a_horn]

Gabriel ruffles a hand through his own hair in an attempt to imitate Topher's. "You're fluffy." He smirks. "And manic. Ferret."

[brink]

Topher is about to argue, but realises Gabriel might have a point. "Fair enough," he shrugs. There are worse things to be compared to. Topher reaches out and brushes Gabriel's hair forward a bit, trying to help make it look like his own. "...Yeah, I'm not sure that's a good look for you actually," he says, frowning consideringly. He's forgetting his no-touching-people thing, since Gabriel is distracting him from resisting the dream's effect.

He chuckles and lets Topher play with his hair. He doesn't really mind all that much. It'd be even nicer if he didn't have hair in his eyes. "I think it's a bit too long for that."
