Encampment Under the Sea [Open to All]

Since the dreamers of Manhattan had such a lovely time at the last vaguely-nautical-themed party, the Rift has decided to step things up a notch. Tonight, the dreamers will find themselves in what appears to be a city very much like the one they inhabit in the waking world, full of towering skyscrapers, neon signs, and heavy traffic. But there is one rather crucial difference: this city is located deep underwater, and the aforementioned traffic is mostly whales and fish, with the occasional submersible thrown into the mix.

The walls and windows are heavily reinforced to withstand the pressure of the water outside, and the people who dwell in these buildings seem to be doing rather well for themselves, for the most part. Buildings are connected by enclosed walkways, so barring any horrible accidents, the dreamers should have no problem getting around without getting too wet.

Much like the city they inhabit in the waking world, some areas are more obviously affluent than others, and the dreamers are as likely to stumble upon an upscale club as an underwater pub. But while the chances of a full structural breakdown are slim, there are definitely some areas that are on the leaky side, and a general sense of claustrophobia pervades the city wherever you might find yourself.

Explore. Or, if you're feeling particularly ambitious, attempt to escape. Either way, take care - it's hard to say what might be lurking in the darkness just beyond the city lights.

[ooc: Y'all know the drill. All characters are welcome, whether they are in the game or not. Characters can remember or forget the events of the dreaming at the player's discretion. And the party never stops - backtag into infinity!]

Hearing the loud noise, Aly immediately loosens the knives that she keeps in sheaths at her wrist hidden beneath the sleeves of her sweat shirt. She's dreaming, she can tell that now, but Aly's gotten in the habit of trying to imagine the dreams of her knives as well, taking them with her.

Then the girl speaks. Not to Aly no...

There's a...something clinging to her.

"Did you know you've got a ghost on your back?"

Ohshit. Jodie starts when she hears an unexpected voice. What said voice is saying should probably be the bigger shock, but sometimes it seems like half the rifty population can see or sense Aiden somehow. Why should this random teenage girl be any different?

Still, in the waking world, this would be Jodie's cue to freak out. Since it's a dream, she's merely annoyed. "He's not a ghost," she says, eyeing the girl. "And yeah, he's kind of hard to fucking miss."

There's a reproachful murmur from the air around her, and Jodie rolls her eyes. Shut up, Aiden.

"Perhaps not a ghost, but he does seem to be bothering you," Aly says, watching Jodie's face and body language to make sure the girl's not actually being harmed. Her own Gift is not made for the offensive, but Aly's still capable of observing and turning weaknesses against someone.

"What is he, then?"

Jodie snorts. "'Bothering' doesn't even begin to cover it," she says, not even flinching as Aiden bangs the nearest pipe in protest. But while she isn't being half as cagey as she would in the waking world, it would take more than being mildly dream-addled to get her talking about Aiden with complete, forthright honesty. "He's a pain," she says dryly.

"At least you haven't got a god bothering you," Aly says dreamily. Kyprioth's patronage is something she happily lives without.
heysoulsister: (not the best plan)

"A god?" Jodie repeats, giving the girl a look that isn't quite as skeptical as it wants to be. Given the whole multiverse thing, it's not as easy as it used to be to dismiss things as insane out of hand. And this coming from someone whose circumstances would have been considered objectively insane by anyone lucky enough to not know about the DPA.

But still. Gods. That's something else entirely.

Aiden's just intrigued enough to quit sulking and start testing the boundaries of just what this girl can figure out about him. Accordingly, he's left off whanging on the plumbing and is cautiously approaching the girl, snaking silently down the corridor to see if her eyes actually track him.

"Oh yes," Aly says, feeling looser tongued in the dream world that very few people take seriously in the waking one. "Kyprioth, the Trickster."

The complicator, tangler of lives, and general all around nuisance at times. Though Aly thinks she might prefer those things to Kyprioth, the ancient god divorced from humanity and compassion.

"Can it hear me?"
