Halfway

Tonight each dreamer of Manhattan will find out they're half the person they used to be.

No, really. Or at least, they're half the human[oid] they used to be. One way or another, each dreamer has been transformed into a hybrid creature from mythology. Fortunately, they find themselves at stunning fjord where those of the more aquatic persuasion can relax in the calm waters (unless, of course, the rift decides to beach them for fun) while others remain on dry ground (then again, who says a centaur can't swim?). There are trees in which bird-people can roost and warm rocks on which the cold-blooded can sun themselves, and the water of the fjord is cool, clear, and inviting. There's nothing man-made to be seen, no hint of civilization other than the dreamers themselves…and in this state, are they really so civilized?

[OOC: The usual dream party rules apply: all players and characters welcome, regardless of whether or not the character (or any character of yours) is in the game. Despite the wording, characters who did not start out looking human are welcome. Characters may remember or forget everything that happens in the Dreaming at players' discretion.]

Hey, she hasn't lost him. Sunshine smiles faintly. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm kind of stuck in the water, anyway." Not so stuck that she couldn't get to the tree if she wanted to, but something tells her the tiny fellow would be more at ease if he thought he was unreachable.

In the water gives him a direction in which to look, and Aglet only has to poke his head up a little farther before he spots her. True to her word she's in the water, but he doesn't see how it is she's stuck there. "...Do you need help?" he asks after a moment's confused thought, though how he'd offer help he doesn't know.

"No," she says, giving her head a little shake, her hair dragging through the water. "I'm a mermaid now, apparently, so I'm fine." For a moment, she considers hoisting her tail out of the water by way of demonstration, but decides against it. She might splash him, and judging by the size of his head, a decent splash might knock him over. "Thanks for asking, though," she adds, not without humor. What would he have done if she had needed help? Gone bounding off to fetch more competent assistance like an itty bitty Lassie?

Aglet can't help but be relieved; if she had needed help he would have had to...what? Run off and pretend he'd never seen her? He's hardly going to run around making beans notice him on purpose, even if it is to help someone stuck in a lake.

"You look familiar," he informs her, feeling like he has a particular reason beyond the fact that she's a bean to feel wary and...embarrassed?

"Yeah, so do you." Sunshine pulls herself forward a little ways, trying to get a closer look at him. Not that it makes much difference, because how many frigging fairy-sized people could she possibly have met, anyway? It takes her a few moments of deep thought before the sudden recollection of little berry filling footprints hits her.

"Oh!" She blinks. "It was another dream. You fell right into a Death of Marat."

At the mention of death, Aglet gives a shudder. "I don't think so. I'd remember if I died in a dream," he contradicts her. He knows because he has done that and he certainly remembers.

Sunshine shakes her head. "No - sorry. It's a kind of dessert. It's a pudding with a really heavy berry filling… remember? White dish?" Gods, she hopes he does. Otherwise she's going to sound like she's unhinged. Either that, or her dreams are just featuring a recurring tiny guest star for no damn reason.

Aglet gasps, the memory flooding back to the forefront of his mind just like that berry filling flooded out across the plate and all over his clothing. "It exploded!" he recalls.

"Yeah, that's what it does," she confirms with a lopsided smile. "They're not built to withstand little people covertly taking chunks out of them." Because yeah, she's starting to remember more about him, too. What was it he called himself? A borrower?

"Any other kind of food and you never would have noticed!" insists Aglet, hopping clear up on top of the tree root in his agitation. He draws himself up to his full height, teetering on stubby little rat feet. "A borrower never takes anything that will be missed."
