Encampment Under the Sea [Open to All]

Since the dreamers of Manhattan had such a lovely time at the last vaguely-nautical-themed party, the Rift has decided to step things up a notch. Tonight, the dreamers will find themselves in what appears to be a city very much like the one they inhabit in the waking world, full of towering skyscrapers, neon signs, and heavy traffic. But there is one rather crucial difference: this city is located deep underwater, and the aforementioned traffic is mostly whales and fish, with the occasional submersible thrown into the mix.

The walls and windows are heavily reinforced to withstand the pressure of the water outside, and the people who dwell in these buildings seem to be doing rather well for themselves, for the most part. Buildings are connected by enclosed walkways, so barring any horrible accidents, the dreamers should have no problem getting around without getting too wet.

Much like the city they inhabit in the waking world, some areas are more obviously affluent than others, and the dreamers are as likely to stumble upon an upscale club as an underwater pub. But while the chances of a full structural breakdown are slim, there are definitely some areas that are on the leaky side, and a general sense of claustrophobia pervades the city wherever you might find yourself.

Explore. Or, if you're feeling particularly ambitious, attempt to escape. Either way, take care - it's hard to say what might be lurking in the darkness just beyond the city lights.

[ooc: Y'all know the drill. All characters are welcome, whether they are in the game or not. Characters can remember or forget the events of the dreaming at the player's discretion. And the party never stops - backtag into infinity!]

Lucifer does not enjoy being trapped in a dream, simply because he should not be dreaming at all; so long as he's here, however, he might as well see what it has to offer. And, being that he has always been at the top of the metaphorical food chain wherever he goes, powerful enough to have near impunity, he sees no reason to be cautious. Even if he is not as powerful as he was, who would dare challenge him? Those strong enough to think they might have a shot have already know why they shouldn't.

He walks the halls with slow and measured step; there is something ahead of him that's strange, occult and certainly other, something he is unfamiliar with. The fact that there is something that he cannot put a name to is interesting enough, and the only thing worse than being stuck is being bored as well.

At least he can solve one of those problems.

Desire shows up to tag 15 minutes late with Starbucks

Desire, by contrast, finds the presence they sense delightfully familiar, though they do wonder why he's stalking the corridors like an old tiger when last they heard he was faffing about in some sort of midlife crisis.

"Morningstar!" they exclaim with unreserved enthusiasm, rounding a corner to get a good look at him. "What are you doing in a place like this, you rascal?"

There is a moment before Lucifer turns to face the person who called to him where his expression twists into something that can only be described as sheer bewilderment. He has been called many things in his long life, many of them significantly less than flattering, but rascal is a new one. Rascal implies familiarity, and he is very certain that he has no idea what being is addressing him.

It doesn't help that he's not quite sure what he's looking at. Something old, with power, and... not really an anthropomorphism, but a concept. The thing and the whole of the thing, a little like the Horsemen. Like Death, but not Death. He has met more than one thing around here that he doesn't know, and that lack of knowledge digs at him like a sore tooth.

"Do I know you?"

Much like a sore tooth, if you keep tonguing at Desire it won't accomplish much but you might feel better, so go on ahead, you curious thing you.

Desire smirks at first, but upon closer inspection this is not the devil they know.

"Oh," they reply softly, "perhaps you don't." It irks them a little to be mistaken, and they frown in disappointment. "My my, that's unfortunate. You are Lucifer though, aren't you?" How strange, to meet some other world's iteration of someone they know intimately. Desire wonders if this one here is still Lord of Hell. It might explain the general lack of radiance. Speaking of unfortunate.

"Most call me by that these days."

Lucifer, Satan, the Devil, the Morningstar-- epithets and titles, which serve his purposes well enough, but not the name his Father gave him.

They can both be irked at each other, for different reasons; Lucifer, because he's really getting tired of all these strange beings that don't exist in his universe showing up, and Desire because he is not the Morningstar they remember. He is, indeed, still Lord of Hell, if that would even be the right term for it; the demons may fight their petty squabbles while he's gone over the title King of Hell, but Lucifer's sovereignty is never a question. Hell is his.

"And you are?"
