Let's Do the Time Warp (Again)

It's that time again, but time seems to be a bit muddled. As usual, people from all over the multiverse are being drawn into the Dreaming by the rift. This time, in addition to (or sometimes instead of) picking up the residents of Manhattan, they take them from their home universe but from a different point in time. You may find yourself suddenly encountering a future version of yourself, or perhaps you bump into a friend taken from long before you met them.

Tonight's setting is also time-twisted. You're still in Manhattan, but it seems to be closer to the 1930s. Specifically, you're in an old hotel. There's the dimly lit lobby, with chairs and tables for relaxed mingling. The bar, where tables are front of a stage, on which a band is playing various hits of the 30s. There's also an outdoor area if you need fresh air. Or you could explore the hotel, but it's mostly corridors, unless you stumble upon an unlocked room.

[Mod note: Usual dream-party rules apply. Both members and non-members are welcome to use any character, be they already in the game or no.

For game-specific characters, you can choose whether or not they will remember their time in Manhattan if they're taken from the future. You can take your character from multiple different points in time, if you want.]

Inside. That's a place for two-leggers, not wolves. She frowns for a moment, then rises somewhat unsteadily to her feet. The ground seems too far away, now, and she feels as if even a light shove would topple her. But it's also easier to hold the knife, and that makes her feel a bit better.

"How far inside?" she asks, eyeing the hotel warily. She doesn't like the thought of being cornered indoors.

He's coming closer! Daine backs away along the fence line until she hits a corner and is stopped once again. Glancing over her shoulder, she lets out a yelp of dismay when she realizes she's trapped.

Where's the Pack? Why aren't they here to help her?

Lowering her head, she growls a warning at the two-legger, her fingers tightening around the knife.

He stops again and just looks at her for several long moments. He hasn't caught on yet that this party is doing anything untoward to time, the memories of the past him who's also here not having registered in his current brain. "It's me," he says more gently. "It's Andrew -- or part of Andrew, I suppose. Are you hurt?"

Hakkon had talked sweet like that, like he'd just wanted to make sure she was all right. She'd gone out onto the road, and the archers had been waiting for her, ready to put her down like the rabid bear. Trembling, she glances around for an escape route, but the fence stretches away to her left and right, and the two-legger's in front of her. Remembering the knife, she grips it with white-knuckled fingers and points it at the man.

Little does Andrew know. He lifts both his eyebrows and his hands, granting her one step backward. "I'm not going to hurt you," he assures her, though she's not looking all that assured. An idea comes to him, and he gives a little frown of concentration. His form blurs, and he steps forward...and backward. Now there are two two-leggers hemming her in, though they hang close together lest she think she's being surrounded...and they're each several inches shy of three feet tall. The idea is that he'll be less threatening like this.

[personal profile] wildmage_daine 2013-08-06 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
What?! How are there more of him? Crouched low as she is, the fact that they're both so short is little comfort, and is far outweighed by the fact that he now outnumbers her. She presses herself back against the fence, breathing heavily for a few moments, and feels a desperate pang of loneliness. It shouldn't just be her against these two-leggers; the Pack should be with her.

With little to lose, she risks calling out for them... but there's no response to her call. She's trapped, and she's alone. The knife wavers as she tries to point it at both of them at once, and there's a faint, keening whine underlying her every exhalation.

"...I don't think that helped," the Andrew in back whispers to his counterpart.

The Andrew nearer Daine flaps an arm at the other, smacking him in the chest. "So back off!" he hisses. The one who first spoke draws in an indignant breath, but a look at the state of the Daine convinces him. Reluctantly, he stalks away, hands stuffed in his pockets, and turns to watch from further off.

"Look, Daine -- it's just me. Just little...little me," says the remaining Andrew.

So AIM just shat itself and refuses to work, FYI.

[personal profile] wildmage_daine 2013-08-06 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's how they do it. One sounds nice, and an angry one waits for her to come out so he can do... something. She doesn't see any weapons, but that doesn't mean anything.

Still, she feels less hemmed in. Keeping the knife aloft, she starts to creep along the fence to her right. Maybe there's an opening if she goes a bit farther, and if nothing else, at least she'll be putting more distance between herself and the two-leggers.

"She's leaving," the further Andrew points out. At least he's bright enough not to come crowding after her. The nearer Andrew shushes him again, worried that they're going to lose her if she finds a way out.

"Just tell me what's wrong!" he calls, confused and more than a little disturbed by her behavior.

"Everyone's. Or the rift's theoretically, but it's more that it picks us up and throws us together -- I don't think it's actually sentient. Is this your first time?"

Because he's going to assume the other man is on the same side of the rift until told otherwise.

The TARDIS that arrives in this dream isn't all that different from her usual self. She's still a time ship, still in a female human body with big brown hair and blue clothes. But she's taller, and wearing a ragged Victorian dress, and she's a lot more animated. She looks at her surroundings with big eyes and a wondering expression on her face like she's never seen anything like this before.

"So that's what the off-switch does."

"I owe you candy?" It is very strange to imagine receiving requests for sweets via prayer, but he's amused rather than offended by the idea.

"I don't find much occasion to eat." He stops his hands from fiddling with his napkin, lets it lie flat, and clasps his hands together. "I'm not sure if I would like it or not." He pauses, letting his mouth curve into a smile. "But if you say that I do, I'm inclined to believe you."

Gabriel is walking away from the music when he feels the TARDIS' presence in the dream a little ways ahead. With a smile, he picks up his pace and heads into the lobby, only to find...well, it's definitely the TARDIS, but not the one he'd been expecting.

He pulls to a surprised stop, but it's only a brief moment of hesitation before he walks the rest of the way to greet her. "Hello?"
theoldgirl: (idris: ooh)

[personal profile] theoldgirl 2013-08-06 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
The TARDIS doesn't immediately realize she's being addressed, instead continuing to take in her new environment and trying to decide what to investigate first, but then her eyes and attention land on Gabriel. Immediately she reaches out for him mentally, poking and prodding at his presence unreservedly.

With an excited grin, she steps right up to his face. "Ooh, you are magnificent!" Then she cocks her head and quickly switches to a questioning look. "What are you?"

Whoa, whoa, fingers suddenly all up in his brain. He takes a step back, more from her sudden mental exploration than her sudden physical proximity. "Whoa there, babe."

"I'm-" Confused, mainly. Confused and very oddly flattered. "Sorry, what? I'm Gabriel." And then, okay, he'd just had a run in with a younger Peter, so he figures that this must be a younger version of the TARDIS, but he's not sure if that even makes sense. "Do you know me?"
theoldgirl: (I'm so awesome)

[personal profile] theoldgirl 2013-08-06 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
She returns the smile warmly, delighted to be able to introduce him to something new once again. "Oh you must try it. Eating and drinking are some of the most interesting things you can do with a humanoid form." It's both amusing and charming that she apparently has more experience with corporeality than him right now.

And, actually, that means her skills for creating illusory food should be good enough to give him an inkling. Just to make sure, she picks something she remembers the taste and texture of herself, and holds out her hand with a plate of Porrim tarts appearing on it. "You could start with this," she offers with a grin.

She doesn't follow his retreat, and ceases her telepathic groping as well at his question. Instead, a strange sadness flutters across her features for a moment as she regards him with a look that's both probing and faraway, like she's searching for recognition in the distance. "I should, shouldn't I," she replies softly. "Maybe I will."

But she is unable to hold onto the feeling for long, a myriad thoughts racing through a tiny human brain not nearly capable of containing everything she knows and thinks and senses all at once. Suddenly focused again, she laughs and gets close again to peek down at his face. "Your nose is hilarious," she declares and boops the tip of his nose, before picking up a bit of his fringe between two fingers in fascination.

Gabriel really isn't sure whether to be horrified or amused, so he's stuck ricocheting back and forth in a sort of loop between the two states. He barely has time to worry about her before she's booping him on the nose and fiddling with his hair and wow this is really strange.

"Uh." Right, wonderful addition to the proceedings.

"You will know me." He looks up at her hand still fiddling with his hair. "I think. Honestly, this is throwing me for a hell of a loop."

She drops to all fours and tries to pick up a little speed while also glancing back at Andrew, which turns out to be a mistake. It means she's not paying close enough attention to the knife, and she accidentally cuts her own forearm. Yelping, she drops the weapon and backs away from it in fear and suspicion, as if it's gained a life of its own. Then she crouches by the fence, the knife on one side and the Andrews on the other.

She's reluctant to pick up the knife again, but she has just enough sense to know she shouldn't let either of them near it, either. Lifting her injured arm, she sniffs at the wound - which isn't much more than a graze - and begins to lick it clean, her gaze still darting between the two Andrews.

Both Andrews take in a sharp breath and step forward, but both check themselves and halt again in the next moment. "Like an animal," says one, realization finally dawning. They're both thinking the same thing: Daine needs telepathic help, and neither of them can properly get into her mind.

"Go find the TARDIS," the one in front orders. The other gives them both a hesitant look, then turns and hurries away. The remaining Andrew watches Daine, worried she'll try to bolt. "Just me now," he tells her. "Daine, you're alright -- err, no, actually, you're not, but I'm not going to hurt you."

The second Andrew's exit is a little reassuring, at least. Even wounded, she guesses she could hold her own against one little two-legger. He almost looks like a child, and while children can be cruel, they're not as strong as the men who were pursuing her before.

If she was thinking clearly, she'd wonder how he knew her name, as he's a complete stranger to her. Instead, she sinks back onto her haunches, taking the weight off her one good arm. She's ready to run if he comes any closer, but she's hoping he'll follow the other one and leave her alone.
