Let's Do the Time Warp (Again)

It's that time again, but time seems to be a bit muddled. As usual, people from all over the multiverse are being drawn into the Dreaming by the rift. This time, in addition to (or sometimes instead of) picking up the residents of Manhattan, they take them from their home universe but from a different point in time. You may find yourself suddenly encountering a future version of yourself, or perhaps you bump into a friend taken from long before you met them.

Tonight's setting is also time-twisted. You're still in Manhattan, but it seems to be closer to the 1930s. Specifically, you're in an old hotel. There's the dimly lit lobby, with chairs and tables for relaxed mingling. The bar, where tables are front of a stage, on which a band is playing various hits of the 30s. There's also an outdoor area if you need fresh air. Or you could explore the hotel, but it's mostly corridors, unless you stumble upon an unlocked room.

For game-specific characters, you can choose whether or not they will remember their time in Manhattan if they're taken from the future. You can take your character from multiple different points in time, if you want.]

"You did, indeed, but that doesn't tell me where you live. You mentioned being a traveler, but even those usually have someplace to call home, unless you consider your vessel to be home."

"Well." He does. Did. He might have actually said to her in relatively recent, unguarded moment that he still thought of her as home. Now, though....

"Manhattan," he says with a shrug. "Got stuck on the wrong side of a rift. Or the right side, maybe."

Loki frowns. "This rift is powerful enough to trap a Time Lord? How does someone who can travel in the river of time get waylaid by a mere rift?"

"We don't exactly go swimming in Time," retorts Andrew. Loki, it seems, has struck a nerve. "It's not that simple."

"It was a metaphor only, but I withdraw the suggestion. I realize it is complicated. If it weren't, anyone could do it. Still, it is suggestive of the strength of this rift."

Andrew sighs, not wanting to go too far into detail lest he reveal that he's not actually a proper Time Lord after all. "It's not just the rift -- that's a big part of it," he admits. "The energy in one universe is different to another. Technology doesn't necessarily work the same on both sides."

Loki nods, shrugging. "True enough, but it's not impossible to be prepared for such events. Surely you can adapt your ship to this realm's energies?"

[bluesuit_handy]

"It's...complicated," says Andrew again, gaze sliding away. It's complicated in the sense that adapting the TARDIS to this universe is a difficult task, yes, but what he doesn't want to admit is that it's also complicated in the sense that the TARDIS, while present, is not his.

Loki shrugged. "Such things often are. Have you tried magic?"

Andrew stares at him, then lifts one eyebrow in the most condescending fashion of which he is capable. "Would that be the sort of magic where we just call it that because it's unexplained, or the kind where we just pretend it's unexplainable?"

Loki sneers back, his expression smug and amused. "Both, really, I suppose. We call is seidhr. I am myself a skilled sorcerer and shapeshifter."

"No, I have not tried shapeshifting at it," replies Andrew, a little put out at being condescended to in return.

"No, I don't suppose that would impress it much," Loki agreed, unruffled. "Still, there are certain magics that might be helpful. I'm fairly good at teleportation."

[bluesuit_handy]

"What, like spontaneously?" That actually does catch his attention. Teleportation...it could be tried, though Rassilon knew where they might end up if they did manage to get through the rift.

"Well, yes. Though, I would need to have a destination in mind."

[bluesuit_handy]

"Have you done it between dimensions, though? Universe to universe?"

"No, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. I've never had any need to go to another universe."

"How's it done, then?" asks Andrew, not expecting he can actually be told right here, right now.

Loki sighs. "Honestly? Could you explain in a few sentences to someone completely uneducated how to do a complicated mathematical formula? I suppose I could show you, but you would likely dismiss it as part of the dream."

[bluesuit_handy]

"Fat lot of good it does me, then," mutters Andrew petulantly. "Why'd you suggest it?"

Loki shrugs. "I'm not unwilling to try. It would just help, if you kept an open mind, that's all."

[bluesuit_handy]

"My mind's open," says Andrew, eyes wide and too innocent. "Wide, wide wide wide open. To useful things."

Loki laughs.

"You couldn't resist the disclaimer! Ah, but magic is useful. Should we try or do you feel it would be a waste of time?"

[bluesuit_handy]

"We're in a dream," Andrew points out. "Your mind may be connected to the rest of us through the rift, but your body's presumably back home...unless you've been transported without knowing it yet."

"Sadly, that is true," Loki agrees, shrugging. "Well, I'm not going to risk getting trapped. I have obligations where I am."
