Let's Do the Time Warp (Again)

It's that time again, but time seems to be a bit muddled. As usual, people from all over the multiverse are being drawn into the Dreaming by the rift. This time, in addition to (or sometimes instead of) picking up the residents of Manhattan, they take them from their home universe but from a different point in time. You may find yourself suddenly encountering a future version of yourself, or perhaps you bump into a friend taken from long before you met them.

Tonight's setting is also time-twisted. You're still in Manhattan, but it seems to be closer to the 1930s. Specifically, you're in an old hotel. There's the dimly lit lobby, with chairs and tables for relaxed mingling. The bar, where tables are front of a stage, on which a band is playing various hits of the 30s. There's also an outdoor area if you need fresh air. Or you could explore the hotel, but it's mostly corridors, unless you stumble upon an unlocked room.

For game-specific characters, you can choose whether or not they will remember their time in Manhattan if they're taken from the future. You can take your character from multiple different points in time, if you want.]

Andrew finally relents. "We've split in half," he admits. "It happens from time to time. First time I've done it in a dream, though, sort of have to wonder if there's two of me in bed at the moment."

"You aren't human, then," Loki concludes, is tone showing he knows he's stating the obvious. "Where are you from originally?"

Being inhuman has nothing to do with it, but Andrew doesn't bother to say so. "Gallifrey," he answers. "Sort of."

"I've heard of your world, but only in legends and stories. You're rumored to be keepers of time or chroniclers of all history."

"Have you?" Andrew perks up, considerably interested. If they're only legend, though, that rather implies the Time Lords aren't any more extent in Loki's home universe than in Andrew's. "The former's a bit more accurate," he notes.

"That is intriguing, I admit. But, I thought the Time Lords held aloof from the universe, not interacting?"

[bluesuit_handy]

"Mostly," admits Handy. "I was never much for tradition."

"I can't say that I am either, though I know enough to respect tradition, even when I choose not to follow it."

[bluesuit_handy]

"Stuff old robes and endless academia and never taking a hand in anything," scoffs Handrew. "A waste, if you ask me."

"Yes, I see your point," Loki says mildly, smiling, trying to hide his amusement. "Tell me more about this place, though."

[bluesuit_handy]

"What's to tell?" asks Andrew evasively. Disparaging Gallifrey means pretending Gallifrey is still there to be disparaged, and that he'd be welcome there. "I couldn't leave fast enough."

As bad as all that? But, it's a world I've never seen. Surely, it has something--music, art, history--that is of interest.

"Well, when you put it like that...." Andrew sighs and shrugs one shoulder. "It's an entire planet, of course it had its own culture, just like anywhere else. Has. Has its own culture."

"Of course. Well, tell me about it, then. How was it?"

Loki, of course, isn't fooled by the hurried switch from had to has.

[bluesuit_handy]

"Stuffy." And Andrew isn't in the mood to divulge what amounts to personal secrets these days.

"You don't seem overly fond of your homeworld, if you don't mind the observation."

[bluesuit_handy]

"Well, you don't see me living there, do you?" asks Handrew smartly. Of course, whether or not he wants to return to Gallifrey is sort of a moot point.

"How should I know? You haven't told me where you live."

[bluesuit_handy]

"Haven't I?" Andrew blinks in surprise and confusion. "I did say I was a Time Lord."

[protectsthenest]

"You did, indeed, but that doesn't tell me where you live. You mentioned being a traveler, but even those usually have someplace to call home, unless you consider your vessel to be home."

[bluesuit_handy]

"Well." He does. Did. He might have actually said to her in relatively recent, unguarded moment that he still thought of her as home. Now, though....

"Manhattan," he says with a shrug. "Got stuck on the wrong side of a rift. Or the right side, maybe."

Loki frowns. "This rift is powerful enough to trap a Time Lord? How does someone who can travel in the river of time get waylaid by a mere rift?"

[bluesuit_handy]

"We don't exactly go swimming in Time," retorts Andrew. Loki, it seems, has struck a nerve. "It's not that simple."

"It was a metaphor only, but I withdraw the suggestion. I realize it is complicated. If it weren't, anyone could do it. Still, it is suggestive of the strength of this rift."

Andrew sighs, not wanting to go too far into detail lest he reveal that he's not actually a proper Time Lord after all. "It's not just the rift -- that's a big part of it," he admits. "The energy in one universe is different to another. Technology doesn't necessarily work the same on both sides."
